Thanks for all the love guys ;-; I was tested today, but I won't get my results for another 3-6 days. But no symptoms so far. My doctor said it's fine to keep working if I can safely stay 6 feet away from my coworkers, which i've told her multiple times is just not possible in my field, so I'm going in to my scheduled shift tomorrow but I am going to speak to my manager about taking a leave, probably until my baby is born, or things get better. And in the foreseeable future, I can only see things getting worse after Christmas and New Years. We've already had clients straight lie to us about being + or having family members that are positive. So it's a thin line. I feel like i'm going to be bored out of my mind, but another woman on the baby forum I'm apart of also just lost her baby at 23 weeks after getting COVID and I just can't take the risk.
A lot of the country that isn't in tier four currently (essentially a lockdown) is moving into tier 4 at the end of Boxing Day, the rest are moving into tier 3 I believe. It feels a bit like Oprah just appeared and started shouting "You get a tier 4 and you get a tier 4".
On a practical level not much may change for us, although we've got to wait a see what happens with the schools. My daughter is doing distance learning for the first week back as they are supposed to be putting some sort of covid testing in place. (They told the schools about this the day before they broke up so they've had to scramble to organise things and let parents know what is happening.)
It's concerning when they talk about the new variant being more transmissible. Both of our parents are fine so I'm thankful for that but the way things are going it does worry me. Especially when you still have people not giving a monkeys and not giving you space. We went to Morrisons last week to get some of our Xmas food shop and a few gifts and at the till behind us in the queue was a family (all adults) not wearing masks and as we were putting our scanned items back into the trolley the younger couple were standing right behind us right where the card reader was. I turned around to pay and politely asked them to let me get past because I didn't want to have to squeeze past them and they looked at me like I'd just asked them to dance. I felt like saying "It's ok, I can wait." but I'm not normally that confrontational so I just looked at them and waited until they moved.
So many people are looking forward to putting 2020 behind them but the UK at least feels like such a mess right now I can't see 2021 being a whole lot better. The cost of living is probably about to rise if we end up with a no deal Brexit but of course we don't really know because everything is so uncertain. Could be fine, could be a disaster. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
Also our landlord has decided to sell the flat so there's uncertainty there. Luckily the government did put things in place due to covid so that tenants currently need six months notice to vacate instead of the standard two regardless of their contract length and to be honest I can't see it selling that easily as there is an on going issue with the property that hasn't been rectified yet but either way we don't really want a parade of strangers walking through the place when we've been trying so hard to limit our contact with people all year.
You've got to concentrate on the things that you can control though. I've signed up to an online part time course to do in my spare time so that will start early next year. I felt like I needed to do something proactive. Looking forward instead of this weird stagnant year that we've had.
