I've been wondering how everyone's been coping with the pandemic and its many repercussions so far. How are things in your country, or area where you live? What do you think of the safety measures that have been taken so far? How are you and your family doing? How have you been impacted? What are your most immediate concerns? Are you required or able to mostly stay home?
I live in Ohio, USA, and I was shocked at the suddenly empty shelves everywhere when I went shopping a few days ago. Even though the shortages seemed to mostly affect sanitizing products of all sorts and people food, the first thing I thought about were my 2 cats and their needs. So I ordered a small stash of canned cat food, dry cat food, and also some cat litter -- now the kitties should be good for at least a month or more.
My boyfriend works in a call center where they are forced to use a different workstation everyday (I know, so stupid). He says they've hired extra cleaning crews, and also that he meticulously disinfects the workstation he'll be using that day every time. Still, there are soooo many people in the same room where he works, all sitting next to each other, I'm terribly concerned that it will be hard for him (and me) not to catch anything...
As much as I'm worried about him having to work in such a high-risk place, I'm equally worried about that company having to possibly shut the call center down for safety measures, because without his income we'd immediately be screwed
On the other side of the world, my family (which includes my aging parents, as well as my sister) lives in Switzerland, which is surrounded by countries that have been strongly impacted by the coronavirus (among which Italy). I'm so worried about them, especially my parents, because they are in that upper age bracket... Also, in my last phone call with my dad, I realized that he didn't seem to understand one can get infected simply by touching a surface that was previously touched by someone infected, thus the hand-washing recommendations. He's lucky that he hasn't been infected so far, using the keypad to open his apartment building glass door without ANY protection or hand-cleaning afterwards! What the hell, dad???!? Well, he's old...
I feel really bad for all the people who have been sent home because they work in a high-risk industry (they recently closed all bars and restaurants to the public in Ohio, only allowing take outs and deliveries), or because their kids' school is closed and they have to stay home for them, thus possibly not having any income. This must be really hard and incredibly worrisome. Then again, I also feel for everyone working in industries that we all depend on, like stores, public transports, healthcare, mail....
The one escape for me is gaming, as always. Been learning and playing a lot of new board games lately (with Tabletop Simulator, the pandemic-safe board game environment). What about you? What are you doing as a distraction from the dismal news and world events?
On that note, I wish you and your family well, Petz friends!
