^ Yup. It's been referred to as/shortened to that for the longest time. And people did the same thing with the community surrounding the Babyz game, dubbing it the BC (Babyz Community) Also wanted to respond to commander 's comment regarding Petza etc. I think you're super close as to when it first came out, though I think it was more like 2004-2005. I was recently searching through PCG's posts about those tools and the oldest ones that I could find dated back to about '05/06 and many of them had already been long released by then. *shrug*

PC = Petz Community. In my experience it's far more common to see it called the PC than a fandom, I find it's usually outsiders who say "fandom", unless things have changed recently.
(edit) in terms of significant events, before LNZ Pro, there was Reshacker. I think people started using that in the early 2000s, and I remember it being revolutionary because it freed you from having to use a hex editor, which was the way it was done in the 90s and very, very painstaking. Carolyn Horn (who definitely deserves a mention for her contributions to understanding hexing) did create her external-lnz editable breeds that could be edited using Notepad, but I don't think those caught on so much.

PC = Petz Community. (: Like others have said, no one in the community calls it a "fandom" and I'm not sure it is one. I associate the word fandom with stuff like movies, shows, and games that have a narrative and characters and stuff haha. You know, I played Petz long before PetzA... but I honestly don't remember specifically finding out about it/using it for the first time? lol. I guess it was so long ago my memory's kind of shot. I want to say it came out around 2005/2006 or so, and I wasn't playing Petz as much then, although I definitely had it by 2008 at the latest when I studied abroad and spent a lot of time on my laptop breeding muttlies between classes lol. Same here! I have played on and off since the mid/late 90's and was just getting back into Petz in early 2005 so I guess I must have been around for PetzA's introduction, but I genuinely can't remember hearing about it or using it for the first time or anything like that. It's just always been a given! My best guess is that I didn't anticipate what a big change it would be to my own petz habits and to the community as a whole, so I didn't realize it was a special moment when I first installed it haha.
Edit: Just noticed what Kel said about its release date. So there's a good chance I wasn't around when PetzA was first introduced, but either way I don't remember learning about its release or getting/using it for the first time haha.

Don't forget there was Omar's Petz Debugger which came before PetzA I believe, and is similar to it. A few people still use it today I think.
As for PetzA, etc, I was around when they were first released but I actually don't remember much or any announcements about it because a lot of that happened on really popular forums that I was not a member of, either because you needed to be invited to join or because I was SO shy and such a big lurker at the time that I felt too intimidated at the time to join the big forums where all the popular folks hung out while I was just a nobody lol. Until The PCG came along, then I got brave. xD

I associate the word fandom with stuff like movies, shows, and games that have a narrative and characters and stuff haha. That's an interesting thought that I've been going over since I saw this thread. It's definitely not part of what I'd fall "capital F Fandom" and the word makes me think of the same things as you, fanfic and popular series. But at the same time it's a group of fans of a property building upon that property, so I think it is technically a fandom of sorts, just one that has little history or culture in common with typical fandoms. But I like seeing some attention on it. I feel a lot of atypical fan spaces get neglected. I never even thought of editing Fanlore or that it was all that relevant to my interests, and now I've signed up to do some work on the page. It's good to see outliers get some love.

So I guess no one here was part of the super big forums that were around when PetzA was first announced/introduced? I guess PetzA predates PCG-- is that the oldest modern-ish forum? What about PKC? Like others have said, no one in the community calls it a "fandom" and I'm not sure it is one. I agree here, we're a niche fandom but a fandom by definition-- "the fans of a particular person, team, fictional series, etc. regarded collectively as a community or subculture." Petz is a game afterall. ((and isn't there like fanfiction/stories/roleplaying relating to petz? This community has everything that I would consider are part of a fandom xDD))

Pretty certain PKC has been around before the introduction of PetzA. But I think there probably are at least a few people here that were also around then too. Like pinto , I'd imagine.

The Fanlore page has really filled out since I signed up and made the thread, and thanks to Kalium there's a lot of info that's been added that I probably wouldn't have worded correctly. :3 I enjoy reading your replies!

PKC was absolutely around well before PetzA! As was the Auto-Adoption-Center (AAC), PA (Petz Auctions), TYL (Try-Your-Luck), TPS (Teh Petz Shiznit), and AAP (All About Petz). I believe PetzA came to a head around PCG days, the petz community gathering. Arie can likely confirm my info

PKC has been around for... ever XD I remember when they sent you graphic certificates of your registrations by email! XD I had some - oh boy do I wish I still had those dogz, they'd be absolute fossils!!!
I'm not sure if this is accurate, but PKC's head honcho "Kai" is #2 on the forum for member number and that was back in 2005. I am #1673 and I joined 17 January 2006. Wow, I'll have 14 years soon @.@

I know the community is much older that PetzA-- I was just curious if anyone around today is old enough to remember or care about the impact of PetzA on the community.
I like to imagine there was a "natural raisers only" riot x'D and controversy that may have arisen over being able to run massive puppy mills with ease? I'm kind of curious~

There wasn't, though. PetzA was well received and did not start any issues within the community.
