so, today i got a pet from pinto , and that was a wonderful surprise!! just look at this guy. perfect. but even more surprising was what happened when i posted him on twitter: as a long time fan + modder this was an absolutely amazing opportunity, and after talking with them for an hour, i now have EXCLUSIVE info we have NEVER heard before, and my mind is absolutely reeling. i got permission to publish it, and i hope that y'all get as hype about it as i am, because i have been vibrating excitedly for this entire time and oh my god it's a christmas miracle (apologies in advance for my casual swearing in the screencaps, if needed i can censor it!)if i get anymore info relevant to this community, i'll be sure to update- just...oh my god. merry christmas everybody, hope you enjoy EDIT: got an update and: this could change hexing forever if anyone knows someone who can work on utilities, or is someone who can themselves, this could be huge.another update!delighy from WW has been able to find a list of traits in code for the vase toy...whether these are all the possible stats or not has yet to be seen, but it's a start! docs.google.com/document/d/1bDVQnSXz32k_SGnXIUxhazh9lIHv5kCDB-h8BBf92lg/edit

Oh man, what a time for me to have been on a break from most of the Internet; I almost missed this! [SKINSTEALER], this is so cool! Getting to talk to a Petz dev? What an awesome opportunity! As a Petz geek and a programming geek, this is one of the coolest combinations of interests I've seen in a while. It's enough to make me want to dust off some of my C++ books, even though I'd have no idea what I was doing (I didn't even know what the SCP files were before reading this thread, so that should tell you something about my Petz modding experience, ha ha). Did the dev share any more information with you after this point? If nothing else, I'd be interested to know, to satisfy my inner tech nerd. Thanks for sharing this, and congrats on the scoop!

Oh wow, what a scoop!! I've only seen this thread now! I read the whole thing and found it absolutely fascinating!! I never thought, for instance, that such things as preference for a color REALLY happened. When I thought I noticed such a thing (preferences), I thought maybe it was my wishful thinking doing a trick on me -- I never thought it was really happening and programmed in. I also never noticed some petz got hungry faster than others -- thinking this was more likely to be programmed as a constant thing. This language-based programming is so incredible, and that really explains how unpredictable the petz' behaviors are! I've always thought the Petz games were SO MUCH MORE than they appear! True gems of programming!
I'm particularly interested in the genetics, breeding, and mutations aspects of the game. For instance, I've always wondered what happens behind the scene when a pet is born with a particular personality (listed in LNZPro) -- say Calico -- but partly behaves like another breed, like the Orange Shorthair shaking while walking, or an Alley-personality cat posing like a champ. Which means that the programmed personalities can mix themselves with traits typically found in other breedz, just like the body parts, despite the main personality assigned to them? I'd love to know more about this, how it actually works and how far this goes -- both with the personalities, looks, and even preferences!
I'm also curious to know if that dev knew what a huge modding community the game generated, and if he was aware it still has a significant following in present time, so many years later? Or is he surprised about that?
That's funny because, just a few weeks ago, I was actually thinking "Wouldn't it be nice to have access to inside information on how the game ticks?", and here it is! Incredible! Anyway, thanks for sharing!
EDIT: And does the dev know about petz shows? I wonder if they're aware of that and, if so, if they were surprised that players made something so huge out of their programming the petz to pose for the camera? Just pure curiosity

RQ, I am very sure the devs know we exist because of messages I've seen from Pinto (she's one of the admin at WW); Pinto is in a FB group with the other devs of the game and the conversations she's shared have big names like rob fulop and andrew s.! And she's def told them about our hexing and asked them questions.
Also if you read the manual at the end of P5, I remember reading a refence to the modding community. I'll have to look it up again to see >< I only have the manual from the hard copy of Petz 5 in a box somewhere.
A long time ago, I believe the devs were in closer contact with the online community and hosted adoptions and encouraged showing. I think I saw some of this in the way back machine when I looked. I think if you look at the Petz Web Pack, you can see examples of things, but I don't think it had as many rules as we have for showing now.

Wow this is so cool and a good read! Amazing with how much we know, its still so little compared to all the actual petz knowledge out there haha.

I love how every time I take a look back at Petz, after being away for a long while, there always seems to be some new development... truly a game that keeps giving. This is very exciting, thanks for sharing!

Whoa. WHOA. I can't believe this is here! My C/related stuff skills don't go much further than Hello World else I'd be all over this even more, but I'd love to see some updates. Maybe I'll lurk in the discord.
And now I know what the trait list is! I've seen them before, they're visible toward the end of the file if you look at it in a hex editor. But I've never known what exactly they do.

The google doc is down D: Remove the percentage signs and other stuff after "edit" and it'll work.
