Depending on when the topic itself was last posted... might be fine to post one that was last active a month ago but on one that's been dead for more than two years is a no-no. In forum terminology, that's known as "necro-posting". However, I'll let Ratqueen decide and say what seems appropriate.

It's fine if the topic is relevant. For example you have a problem someone else posted about a year ago and you need more information, it's ok to post. Or if there was a discussion about a topic you'd like to share your opinion on, that's alright too.
If it's just to say "Nice pet!" on a year old showoff, it's best to avoid that.

I have never been able to have my post show up in the Shoutbox. Or at least, I've never seen it. Is it a setting I am missing perhaps?

No, there isn't any setting or anything particular to do to post in the Shoutbox. After typing a message and pressing "enter", the post should show up at the bottom of the Shoutbox.

Well, I've used them, even had them on my site periodically... so I assumed I was using it correctly. I'll just keep trying now and again. Thanks for your response.

- No spamming! Please do not abuse this board by posting pointless things just to boost your number of posts, or for any other reasons. This includes excessive bumping, and any type of "chain letter" and "poking" posts.
I have a question about this rule because I'm confused. By "chain letter", does that mean quoting/replying to someone? I'm sorry. I'm very new to this. DX

DX You're welcome to quote/reply to people, but if you're going to quote or reply to multiple people in one thread without any posts in between by someone else, it's best to include all of them in one post. You can edit previous posts and include all the replies in one that way. ^^

DX To further clarify (I'm not sure if this was your question, sorry if it wasn't!), chain letters are messages designed to be copied and multiplied. Think "pass this on to 15 people in the next 5 minutes or back luck will befall you", "copy this message to your timeline if you agree", etc. or (fake) warnings with a call to forward it to all your friends/contacts.

As of today, we are changing the no double-posting rule across the forum: - Double-posting is allowed anywhere in the forum as long as you have something meaningful to add, like an update, or if nobody posted after you for a while. Please do not double-post just to bump your thread, or to add something your forgot to say in your previous post (in which case, please edit your previous post instead.)
