I agree that when you for example... post a hex your looking for advice on and people just post 'love it' and not give advice at all, it can be rather annoying... But I'm thinking of this from a global mod POV as a mod whom has to issue warnings. Alot of people would not listen to it, especially in the beginning, that would mean alot of warning for the Globals and RQ to hand out (even if it becomes a new rule and we give a 1 week period for people to read the rules and put it into action before we started). If you say, 'weeeell don't make it a rule which enforces the warning system' then nobody's going to take an notice of it, if all the mods are just saying 'don't do this and that' it will end up being like it used to be (i have been a mod here for 4 years (before the warning system), i know how frustrating it can be not having people pay a blind bit of difference to what your saying) It's a great idea and indeed could help to lessen the mini spam, but from my POV i can see it creating a lot of extra work...

That is true. It would be a lot of work to enforce since it wouldn't be a big enough rule to put on the warning system, but I think if enough people are into it(mostly people who have been here a while) then you wouldn't have to enforce it as much yourselves.
Another forum I am on has this rule and everyone seems to follow it accordingly. If someone accidentally has 4 words instead of five, or flat out one word, people usually gently remind them of the 5 word rule and they follow after that. Usually the people who don't use the 5 word rule are the people who had just got to the forum. People catch on quickly to it and are more careful with how long their responses are.
Maybe you could give it a test drive for a few weeks, just to see if it sinks in?

Maybe we should just keep using our common sense? I know it can be annoying if someone replies in a short, offhanded way.. but but most people quickly learn not to be rude, and if they don't, nobody's forced to keep talking to them.
This is effectively the anti-spam rule we already have, but broader, and it includes short posts that are nonetheless not spam, such as "Thanks, everyone!" in a thread showing off a hexie. Dunno about others, but I'd like to be able to say thanks if someone praises my work, even if I've nothing more to add on the subject. (And adding extra words for the sake of meeting a word count is as good as spam.)
Too many rules can suck the fun out of anything. I don't want to feel like I'm entering kindergarten every time I log on here :/

Just to throw in my two cents - I too can see how it would be helpful to have that rule in place, but I think it would only be detrimental in the long run. Like others have said, I think we have plenty of rules in place.
Silverstripe, why don't you try adding in adoption threads you run a requirement to say more than just the bare minimum? ^^ That way you can start trying to encourage lengthier responses, without making it a board-wide issue.

Please don't post in this thread for the sake of posting.

^ They are not being rude, they are just informing you on the rules, rules you should have read for yourself. Rules are here to help everyone. Also you don't need us to delete your account, you can access that option in your profile. But seriously that sees like an extreme thing to do, when you can just re-read the rules and start from there.

I have no idea where to put this...
I have a 1% warning level, and no idea why. I haven't been on this forum in forever, and I didn't receive the warning recently. Some people will not adopt out to me because I have this warning, and it's really frustrating. Is there any way to make this go away, or will it stay there forever? And is there any way to find out why I got it? Sorry if I'm talking nonsense, I really have no idea what the warning thing even is. I tried looking around for information on it and couldn't find a thing.

Modified rules! New larger dimensions allowed for signatures, mature topics should be marked as such, and more leniency towards members breaking small rules for the first time. The following rules (underlined parts) have been modified, starting April 21, 2012:- Images are allowed in signatures, but their dimensions must be a maximum of 700 pixels in length and 70 pixels in height (they can be smaller, but their height and length must not be larger,) like this: - Please do not use swear words in the forum, as there are young members present. Also, and even though slightly mature topics are allowed, please add the word [MATURE] to your thread subject, so members can easily skip it. - If you break the rules, you may receive a private PM the first time, or a warning, depending on the importance of the rule you broke. If you break rules purposefully or repeatedly, you will be warned. If you continue to disrupt the forum in any way, you may be banned with no further warning, and usually permanently

My understanding on deleting threads (that is, why we have to post Please Mod Delete in the title rather than delete them ourselves) is that those threads will corrupt if the poster (and not a moderator) tries to delete them. Is that still a problem with the new-and-improved upgraded forum? Is anyone working on fixing this bug, if it hasn't been resolved? It would be a really wonderful feature to be able to delete your own post and it would save Mod time, too.

^ My guess would be is that it's not going to change. It's not a bug, per se, when members hit the delete. When you hit the delete, you're just hitting it for that post. A moderator or admin has an option to remove the whole topic, not just on the post.
