I figured it'd take them a while to actually pose between all the other Alley things they do... Yes, this is true. If I've seen them do it before, I know they can do it again, but they do love to wave their alleyness around at you in between. Sometimes for a long while. Luckily I find alleys in Petz charming ever since my ex boyfriend's horribly mean cat decided she liked me (I think it was 'cause I respected her and was kind of in awe of her). She was actually a tabby in real life, but she was scrawny (runt of the litter) with this huge head and mean eyes and would hiss and spit and growl and she was kind of legendary. We lived in a small town and people would remember her... she was super tough too, one time when she was 19 or 20, she fought off a full grown boxer on her own and she was a monster at tree climbing. Anyway digression but... before I had her I never really cared for Petz alley cats, but now I can't get enough of them. Eventually they'll do it. I'm working with this one right now: As you can see, she'll pose, but she's got skinny little legs and it's hard to get them lined up, so in between she takes hissing breaks and it's kind of frustrating @.@ But in the end I think it'll be worth it.

I am an Alley Cat addict. xDD I think they're my favorite cat breed of all. I never really got to know them before, because they always were maxed in sickness and fleas, and I felt bad because all they could do was scratch and cough and were miserable. Ever since I learned how easily that could be fixed, and how awesome Allies were...I was hooked. xD I find their anger rather amusing, (oh the rage xDD) and I do love how if you pet them, they melt into a purring puddle of kitty love. xDDD They're not as nasty as they'd like you to think. I love the story about your ex boyfriend's cat though! A real Alley cat, from the sound of it! (Well, despite being a tabby...) Sounds like a pretty great cat. Nobody would mess with her, that's for sure! I have a cat in P5 that I always liked the idea of showing years ago, but her legs look pretty much exactly like your example cat: That's the best I've got from her so far, but like yours, the legs just don't want to get any better. xP EDIT: Haha, maybe we should take this to PM if we want to continue this conversation further, come to think of it xDD

But you never really said HOW you got the Alley to pose. If you didn't use the spray, how? Was it just by bringing them out the Petz door? I didn't specify because I didn't do anything different from what I usually do with any other cat. Same method of picking and dropping, pressing the spacebar for the camera, and clicking on the cat or picking him up again to redirect his attention/stop whatever other animation he may have started (scratching, hissing, etc). After a while (longer than other breedz), he just posed by himself. Then, after that first time, I continued with more of the same -- no rewards, potion, or door (but I try to keep them awake and fed with PetzA, but not 100) -- and he posed for a second time after a much shorter period of time than it took for the first pose. And now he poses in even less time. He still goes into a hissing fit every now and then, but he poses by himself too. It only took me about 20-30 minutes to get him there I have a cat in P5 that I always liked the idea of showing years ago, but her legs look pretty much exactly like your example cat: That's the best I've got from her so far, but like yours, the legs just don't want to get any better. xP ^ Beautiful cat! I love the big Mau ears! My favorites! The two catz above have meezer legs. The problem with aligning them perfectly is normal, to a degree (a bit less noticeable if you fatten up the cat a little bit with PetzA). But Siamese/thin legs will almost always have a few pixels one side or the other, or both, even when optimally aligned (there's a paragraph about that in the Catz Guide, with examples).

^ Really? An Alley Cat actually can pose on his own like that then? I thought they were up there with Oshies and Siamese Catz and just wouldn't pose unless you did something special.
I did actually see the bit you mentioned in the Catz Guide, but the thing is, I have no idea what legs are what on Catz. xD There's a few thin legs, and I don't know how to tell those apart. So I was unsure if Yellow (the cat above) had the Siamese legs, or some other thin legs. I was starting to think it was Meezer legs though, considering I cannot seem to get the second leg to disappear for the life of me.

So I don't know if this will be helpful and many of you probably already know it but if your cat is aligned but instead of posing they're doing the close-eyes-and-tilt-head-to-the-stars thing you can pet their front two feet and it will snap them out of it. Useful for photos.

^ Really? An Alley Cat actually can pose on his own like that then? I thought they were up there with Oshies and Siamese Catz and just wouldn't pose unless you did something special. Yes, they can, and Oshies can pose by themselves too, same way. It just takes longer to get them there. Natural Oshies always pose with slanted eyelids, but the love potion gives them an even more worried look, with even more slanted eyelids (that's how you can tell how they were posed). The love potion does that to any breed. If I'm not mistaken, Siamese-personality catz are the only ones that will not go into a standard pose without the love potion (or I've never had the patience -- would love to know if anybody's managed to standard-pose a meezer without the potion). Japanese Bobtails and Siamese cats have almost identical legs: they're very thin and point almost straight down when posing (as opposed to being more or less slanted like most other breedz). I can see your cat has Japanese Bobtail markings, so he could have either. When I refer to "meezer/thin legs", I mean either, or any mixie with similar features. They both have the same pixel-showing problem though. IMO, a few pixels showing for these type of legs should not be counted as a fault. The two catz above would show less pixels if fattened up a bit, and then that would be perfectly acceptable. The cat below is one of my current show catz (5 points away from his SGCh title, so the leg problem didn't hinder him too much). His mother was a Siamese mixie, but he also has Japanese Bobtail in his line. He could have either legs (although more likely meezer, because of his mother). The front leg is a little curved instead of straight down, probably because of his mixed heritage. This is the very best leg alignment I managed to get out of him, fattened up to 60 (I usually keep my posing catz at 50). It shows 2-3 pixels of the other leg's outline on the right side, near the top, and 1 pixel of the other leg in the middle on the left side -- no way to make this one look any better, but it's okay as long as the judge knows this is likely the best it can achieve: Then I have this one, also with meezer legs, but almost perfectly aligned (1 black pixel at the very top of the leg, on the right side, but almost impossible to see because of the cat's color). Sometimes, the mixed bits come together is such a way that alignment is possible, sometimes not. Notice how the front leg comes straight down, not slanted -- that's a dead-on indication they're either meezer or Japanese Bobtail legs (those 2 breedz are also the only ones that have those very thin thighs, like a stick -- very visible on the cat above): And a few more examples (probably had fatness around 50 for these) -- all the same problem: So I don't know if this will be helpful and many of you probably already know it but if your cat is aligned but instead of posing they're doing the close-eyes-and-tilt-head-to-the-stars thing you can pet their front two feet and it will snap them out of it. Useful for photos. That's a great tip! I usually briefly click on their heads to snap them out of it when they do that. I will add that to the guide!

Lots of really good info in this thread! I can recognize calico and persian legs now, but like CatCreature, am less sure about other types of legs. So thanks for pointing out my kitty has meezer legs. You also said: The two catz above would show less pixels if fattened up a bit, and then that would be perfectly acceptable. I try to do this with most of my catz, but some, like alleys, it just doesn't seem to stick. I will put it up to 60 or even 70 fatness and then it's immediately back to 0, even if I keep the brain sliders window open. Is there a way to fix this problem somehow?

If I take an original Alley Cat, the only things that don't stick when I use the brainsliders are the sickness and fleas, which come right back up, but the fatness does stick for me. I just tried with a first-gen alley out of the adoption center. If that's a random trait that can happen to Alleys, I never noticed it before.

I love how this conversation has gone from posing difficult breedz to the logistics of thin legs XD

^ I know, right? xDD Ratqueen I know if you pet an Alley personality cat, their fatness drops to zero. paige@rattlesnake, I'd suggest adjust the alley's fatness to how you want it, and don't pet them before they give you the pose you want. xD Also, Yellow's fatness should be close to the 50's already. (Just to reply to the bit about fattening her up xD) I usually keep my Petz around there. Though I didn't check.
