So something weird started happening with my computer tonight. I was online like normal, then Chrome crashed. Alright, no big deal there. So I tried to restart it.
It loaded for a few seconds, then crashed again. Every time I tried to re-launch Chrome, it loaded for a few seconds, barely even showing anything other than a blank screen, and crashed. Since I was in the middle of something, I decided to finish up with Firefox and figure Chrome's problem later. To my surprise, Firefox did the EXACT same thing! I restarted my computer, and it did nothing to change it.
I tried running a CCleaner to clean up excess stuff on my computer, as well as internet files I don't need cluttering up the space. I also had Windows 10 check my wireless adapter I'm using (which is this by the way) and it claimed there was a problem so I had it repair it. It said something like the adapter was either not connected properly, or was dead or something. But it claimed to have fixed the issue? And after that, the internet was working again...so I figured it must have been a mistake.
Whatever, things were working again so I went about my business. A few minutes later, Chrome is crashing again and absolutely refusing to work. After enough desperate attempts to make it do SOMETHING...something changes. It claims to NOT be connected to my network anymore. I check my computer, and it says it IS in fact connected. But Chrome still won't go anywhere. (Oh, also to clarify, all other things in the house were using the internet with zero issues)
SO I try moving my wireless adapter to a different USB port. No good. I move it back, and suddenly it's not registerring it as being plugged in at all. SO I plugged my computer in through an ethernet cable instead, and the internet so far seems to be working just fine. (My post hasn't been crashed on yet, at least)
I've been plagued with difficulties regarding connection to the internet throughout my life and it's always one of the most complicated things for me to troubleshoot, and it stresses me out a lot. xP Does anybody have ANY clue what the heck is going on?
Could my adapter be dead? (They die, right? =.= ) How could I tell if that's the case? And my biggest question...WHY would Chrome AND Firefox repeatedly CRASH if the adapter is dead? If it's dead, wouldn't they just open flawlessly and flash the 'you have no connection' page? Why crash??
I dunno, I'm weirded out and randomly worrying about some weird virus or whatever. How could I tell if it's some funky virus VS an adapter dying or whatever? Should I buy a new adapter? Am I an idiot?
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP SOONISH? xD I'm freaking out a little! Thanks! Sorry if this all made little sense...it's hard to know what I'm doing. I'm actually not that good with computers at all. xP
EDIT: Just tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the adapter. So far it looks like it's working. If things freak out YET AGAIN...I dunno what's wrong, but it looks like the ethernet cable definitely works. It's just annoying to use. xD
If I don't edit this again within an hour or two, assume the driver thing worked and all is dandy. (Please let all be dandy...) Because it took under twenty minutes for it to crash things. I'm gonna go watch a Youtube video for a period of time it didn't let me finish before, just to play this out.
And even if this works, I still don't understand why it was having this bizarre issue to begin with, and I'd still like answers if anybody has ANY idea what's going on. xD
