Oh cool! That would be great. Well, I read on a website (I think maybe a hexer's?) that the petz 5 petz are the same but the profile adds a bit of extra data to the file which confuses the petz 4 game and makes it think the file is corrupted. But I don't know, since I am just repeating information I read elsewhere I can't elaborate on it or be absolutely sure that it's true. Ah, ok. I'll do some more digging and see what I can find. c: I'm kinda hoping that's really the only difference.. changing a few bytes here and there to remove that extra info shouldn't be too difficult.. right? haha xD

I like petz 5 better too I am bummed 4 has more to download, but really, the game comes with over 100, and my few downloaded toyz I just see as an additional bonus Yeah, I agree. There is so much to download for petz 4, and not petz 5 xC I wish I could download the official p4 toys for p5, like the snowglobe and the dog bed etc.

Some of the items are no longer on sites, but people are happy to send them to you if you ask.

I totally agree.... I believe the only legitimate argument for Petz 4 is that it is backwards compatible. However, if everyone just downloaded the free Petz 5 demo (which I wouldv'e thought would've happened by now considering it came out in the early 90's lol) than everyone would be on the same page anyway.
I really don't get why everyone doesn't just upgrade.... but ooooh vwell.

I never understood it when I only had P5, but after getting P4, I prefer it. I don't know what it is about it. I really wish they could have larger litters, but other than that it is awesome.

I really don't get why everyone doesn't just upgrade.... but ooooh vwell. Sure, everyone could have downloaded the Petz 5 demo by now. The exact same goes for the Petz 4 demo. "Everyone just do the same thing and we'll all be on the same page" well obviously, yes. But that's not an argument for or against either option, since both options are available to everyone. Backwards compatibility plays a HUGE role, that's true. It's what keeps the community running. There's much more to it than that, though. Another big thing for me is that the P5 breeds seem poorly done; most of them have weird body shapes that don't work well when breeding mixies, their textures aren't transparent so very little variety is possible when breeding them, and third, their personalities (as far as I can tell/have ever known) are carbon copies of the P4 breeds, which is kind of boring. They just don't feel as unique and lovingly crafted as the older breeds. Then there's a bunch of smaller things. Mothers with newborns getting stuck in the nursery is annoying. Having to endlessly scroll through the carrying case to find your toys is annoying. Having to play endless mini-games to get all the toys is annoying. The ever-present sponge and towel in the salon are annoying. Having to take out a pet to view its profile is annoying. The updated playscene graphics don't look right to me. And yeah, some of these can be fixed if you tinker with the game a little, but that doesn't change the fact that the game itself is really flawed. I think having bigger litters is the only "legitimate argument" for Petz 5. But it's not worth sacrificing backwards compatibility and putting up with a thousand little annoyances for. That's why a lot of people don't want to "upgrade" to P5, because it doesn't feel like an upgrade by any standard except that the number in the game's title is higher.

^ For me, that is enough of a difference (the bigger litters), but that's my preference. I also find posing easier in 5 than 4, I know that's the odd way out.
But that's the nice thing, we can each play the versions we like.

I really don't get why everyone doesn't just upgrade.... but ooooh vwell. P5 isn't an "upgrade" to everyone. P5 has more glitches than P4 for some people, including me. My game has never run correctly on this computer, though I do still use is for select petz. Overall, I like the way P4 works, I like the playscenes, and most of all... I like the playpen. The desktop mode just doesn't do what the playpen does. I like both, don't get me wrong... but people have legitimate reasons for not using or even disliking Petz 5. Just like some people may have legitimate reasons for disliking Petz 4 (such as the lack of litters).

Wow lol I didn't realize it was such a huge deal. Sorry if I offend anyone? I've never experienced any glitches, so I didn't realize that was an issue. I guess I should've read the previous posts in this thread, so that's my bad. Excuse my laziness. And as for some of the ugly breeds... one could just not use them =P. Idk I like the extra features in 5, but I switched to 4 so that I could hex/breed for the community. After all, without the petz community... petz wouldn't be nearly as fun. I do really like that people have made the p5 playscenes available for p4, as well as some other things. It's made it a lot easier for me to give up p5 =P.
Is there a way to tweak breed files that were made for P5 so that you can use them in p4? If so, than I'm totally sold haha. I really want to breed CK Border Collies in p4.

I don't have a link on hand, but I have seen P5 breeds for P4. I had German Shepherds in P4 because I actually like that file, lol.

Well guys, I really didn't want to jump on the P4 bandwagon, I really enjoy how much faster the breeding is in P5, but I just bought P4 again. I really really do miss the clothes closet and the toy closet. So much And the fact that more people will be able to adopt from me? Kinda just seals the deal. Ugh I don't want to be playing two different versions though But I can't get rid of the p5 petz I have

manda587Why don't you want to play two different versions? It beats losing access to all your P5 pets or having to convert them. I like having both so I can play whichever I'm in the mood for. I guess I'm just a big supporter of both, lol. I love different aspects of each and if I couldn't use both... That'd really make petz overall very un-fun for me. But maybe that's just me. I can imagine feeling overwhelmed having to manage two different games, so I understand that. Not trying to put down anyone's preferences.

No no I understand That is it though, the being overwhelmed. I just don't want to keep up with 2 versions of the same game, just seems too much work for me. I'm hoping though I'll be able to learn how to convert them and keep my faves that way

I have been debating playing two versions as well, but it does seem a lil like a pain. That and it'd take up more space on the computer. But, I think it'll be worth it, so meh.
With all the computer genius' on here, you'd think that being able to convert them would be possible haha. I bet someone out there has figured it out =P. There's just so many breeds that I've only seen available for p5 that I love. I wouldn't care as much if it weren't for that.
