Forgive me if this doesn't belong in this board - I wasn't sure if this counted as "Petz Talk" since this game is CLEARLY NOT PETZ, but... Can we just talk about the new "Petz" for a moment? Titles like this: and this: For all I know, the games could be great, but it's.. just not Petz! It actually kind of hurts that UbiSoft took this BELOVED game with a huge following and turned it into this. Has anyone played them? Does anybody else have strong feels about this?

I'm going to move this to the general board, since it's technically of a completely different game.

Definitely not the Petz we know and love... I got one game, Petz Sports I think, and it actually was pretty good. Except it was extremely glitchy. So many things didn't work... It was for the Wii.
The Fantasy one looks interesting. I am in the market for new pet/animal games, so I might check it out.

I've played a few of them. They range from ok to pretty crappy. Some of them got kinda weird, like Dogz/Catz 2 for the Wii, which was a fantasy RPG where you played as the dog/cat, or Petz Bunnies for the DS, where you taught your pet bunny to talk. There was never anything as good as the real petz games. Altogether, they kinda bum me out, so I try to ignore them as much as possible. What bothers me more than them slapping the petz name on shovelware titles, though, is the fact that they completely ignore the PC. I mean, it's not like they don't know we exist. They knew when they were working on P5 at least. Since they clearly aren't going to make any more original style petz games, they could at least throw us a bone and release the source code or something. But I guess that's just wishful thinking.

^ I agree with skissors when I was little I played dogz 6 for the pc, it wasn't very impressive and from what I remember it got repetitive and I got bored with it pretty quick. I also played catz 2 for the wii a while back ago, I played threw most of the game then I got bored with it but it wasn't a bad game and the missions were fun. to me it seems like ubisoft just uses the "New Petz" games as a money grab and they don't put alot of effort into them, not like P.F magic did with the original petz games :/ such a shame

I liked the RPG ones, I stopped playing the Dogz 2 Wii one though because I was afraid of the crocodiles/alligators when I was little and I didn't like playing levels where I could die.
I think they are extremely different from Petz on the computer. When it comes to pet/animal DS games, I completely reccomend Nintendogs, it's also quite different but very well done!
I remember one animal DS I just couldnt't understand... But I do really want that figure in the first image though lol I love figurines xD.

Edit: it seems I'm the only one that actually liked/loved these games? xD meh, I'm just a sucker for any dog games x3
I've played the first ubisoft PC (and GBA) "Dogz" game when I was younger and absolutely LOVED IT! spent many hours on it, it was very fun, you can decorate your house and train your dog many cool tricks and enter him in fun competitions. there are also tons of clothes you can dress them in. very entertaining lol The GBA version is pretty cool as well but in a third person format.
Petz Vet 1 and 2 (for PC) are very nicely done games as well. realistic and good for those who want to be a vet or just like medical games like me. it can be pretty graphic surprisingly...
I also have "Petz Dogz Fashion" for both GBA and DS, both silly but strangely very fun (I enjoyed playing them quite a bit). the DS one follows a funny storyline with cliche characters so it was entertaining. in the GBA version, towards the end of the game your dog gains the magic ability to TALK. YEAH I'M SERIOUS. I was shocked lol
so all in all, I like some of the newer ubisoft Dogz games, but I don't like that the took the name from the PF. Magic games, espcially since they are not related. I don't like the newer fantasy LPS looking "petz" games though, thats when I stopped buying/playing the new petz series. I haven't played any of the wild animal series' so can't talk about those.
(and don't get me started on the "Horsez" series (title actually Alexandra Ledermann/Pippa Funnell) those games are super amazing. My favorite PC game series, aside from Petz of course^^ theres just so much to say thats good about them!)

I didn't realize that they *actually* called those PC games Dogz 6 and Catz 6. That's even more of a low blow than I thought skissors - my thoughts exactly. I don't really know if the (original) games ever would have been as popular if it weren't for folks like Carolyn Horn, figuring out the mechanics. It definitely upped the replay value of the games, I doubt I'd be sitting here on a Petz board 15 odd years later if there was no PC. HAH, maybe that's it? Petz 4 was sort of the pinnacle, I think, for a lot of us - we're still playing the same game we bought years and years ago. There's no money to be made in that. That said, the dog/cat RPG sounds sort of cute and weird.

In terms of LPS games, there was one comouter one that had an open world feel that I liked. Also for horses, I remembered a Barbie horse game that I just loved when I was little because you can pick a horse, and again, open world feel!

I didn't realize that they *actually* called those PC games Dogz 6 and Catz 6. Don't worry, they don't. It's just a fan nickname. My sister played Petz Dogz 2 for the Wii and liked it. Also once my sisters played the first Dogz and Catz of the new series and it was...not very impressive, to say the least. Interestingly it had a few of the same sounds (meowing etc.) from the original Petz games xD

I can still remember when Ubisoft announced "Petz 6" and the whole PC was so excited that they may have fixed the glitches Petz 5 had... then that stuff came out. It was like the wind had been knocked out of you. I believe Ubi may have actually started building off Petz 5, but probably because of the "low quality" graphics, they scrapped it and made a completely new game. (this is just my own speculation) Why else would they announce a Petz 6 to the community as if it was continuation of the current game format, only to release a completely different game? Of course, they may have just purchased the rights to the game to have the name "Petz" with a zed since it was copyright protected...
I've never played them. Maybe I would have, but at the time I was getting set to move to the UK and pretty much forgot about them until I'd been there for about a year and reinstalled Petz 5 onto my laptop on a whim.

It definitely upped the replay value of the games, I doubt I'd be sitting here on a Petz board 15 odd years later if there was no PC. Agreed. I can still remember the day I discovered the online community (about 14 years ago lol). I was AMAZED that I could download new breeds! I've been hooked ever since. I've played the so called Dogz 6 for PC and I hated it, mostly, I think, because they called it "petz", but it had nothing to do with my beloved game. It's an insult to the Petz name. The fact that they ignore this WHOLE community of people who love their original games....that's a slap across the face. Aside from that, the Dogz 6 game was boring, limiting and repetitive. One of the things I have always loved about petz is breeding different breeds and seeing what the combinations make. I love that all the pups are unique. There are a couple other animal breeding games out there, but none that I am aware of where you can cross-breed and come out with unique babies. Maybe one day someone will rediscover our fan base and make something new for us. I would spend my money on a new, actual Petz game in a heartbeat!!!

I like the old ones way better. It saddens me that UbiSoft made our beloved pet simulator game into completely different games, that are much more boring in my opinion. I wish they made a new petz, but with the old Petz 1 -5 style, but with new things in it.

I'm also sad that they've done their damn'dest to completely ignore and erase the existence of the original series with the Petz name, and its following. Exactly :\ it would have made sense for them to do this if the original petz was terrible but its very unique and awesome, maybe they don't want people to see the original petz series and realize that they aren't putting nearly as much effort into their "New Petz" games then P.F Magic/Mindscape put into their original petz games that are way older. why did ubi-soft have to abandon such a great game? smh

why did ubi-soft have to abandon such a great game? smh If I remember correctly, they even opened up communication for suggestions from the PC when they were first starting to develop "Petz 6" or maybe it was P5... My memory is quite fuzzy.
