ASMR stands for "Autonomous sensory meridian response". I have been getting ASMR tingles for years (as far back as 4 years old) and I just discovered the ASMR community about two years ago. I was curious to see if anyone on the forum also experienced tingles.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, and I'm sure many people wont considering the unknown nature of the feeling, I suggest taking a swing around to the ASMR wiki page. It more or less explains the feeling, though not entirely accurately.
If you do, please share your triggers. C:

I don't think I actually get ASMR tingles, but I love listening to ASMR 3D sound videos. Very relaxing. I mostly listen to scratching/tapping/various sounds, but I wish I could find someone whose whispers/soft voice I could stand. The only guy's voice I can stand only has a few videos that aren't very long. Everyone whispers too quietly and makes way too many mouth-sounds (since a lot of people like that), but mouth-sounds make my misophonia act up (basically the opposite of ASMR. I get very unpleasant jolts in the back of my head).

I don't believe I get tingles from ASMR either. The first time I found an ASMR video, I was trying to figure out how to replace a battery in a Gameboy cartridge. The video just happened to be a guy whispering the instructions and I found the whispering to be really relaxing. Sometimes I will listen to ASMR videos when I am having trouble sleeping to help me relax.

Hmm, very interesting. I was aware that many people listen to ASMR videos for non-ASMR purposes but I wasn't aware that some sounds could set off unpleasant responses.
Thanks for the input guys. :3

My mom and I both have Misophonia (we believe) and certain sounds can actually trigger extremely unpleasant responses... such as sudden anger, headaches, and for me random unpleasant jolts throughout my body. Crunching while eating and smacking get to my mom and me, but the sound of nail clippers hit me where it hurts. I don't know why it doesn't affect my mom. =/ Most sounds don't bother me, though, if it's in my control: such as purposefully listing to ASMR videos. A lot of sounds that bother me in real life actually relax me when I listen to ASMR videos. I have to be careful, though, because I was relaxing and listening to peanuts being husked when suddenly they starting eating them. =/ That was painful... My two favorite youtube ASMR channels are Sound Sculptures and Deep Ocean of Sounds. Both have wonderful 3D sounds with no talking. Deep Ocean of Sounds even has one video that almost makes me think I actually do have ASMR. Sadly, the sound that causes it only lasts for less than a minute in the video... I'm almost tempted to get a 3D microphone to start making my own ASMR videos. EDIT: Wiki link to Misophonia info. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misophonia

I'd have to spend quite a bit of money getting the right equipment, but if I ever do, I'll let you know.

I'm now seriously considering getting into making ASMR videos... I just need to decide what type of microphone to get. The "Yeti" isn't binural, but it does record from different directions. Does anyone here know of any ASMR youtubers that use this mic so I can get a better feel for how it sounds? www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008F4USMS/Then there's this one which are microphone earbuds. It is binural, but I'm afraid it wouldn't work quite as well for my situation because I'd either have to put them in a dummy head or in my own ears. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003QGPCTE/Those are the two least expensive microphones I'm considering. Any thoughts? Any videos you can link me to using these mics so I can make an informed decision? I'm kinda leaning towards the Yeti right now, but I'm afraid it won't achieve the sound I want... but I'm also afraid the other won't do it either. Sorry for the double post, but I also wanted to bump the topic.

I like some scratching sounds. Also, I think just because you dislike one sound that gives some people ASMR tingles, it doesn't mean you couldn't have ASMR at all. I've been doing some research and a lot of people with Misophona (like me) have ASMR. Certain sounds just trigger different people (in different ways). If you don't like scratching, maybe you'd like whispering, crinkling sounds, mouth sounds, or something else. Or maybe nothing, lol. Just don't count yourself out because you don't like one sound. Like I said, I don't actually have ASMR, but man... some of those sounds are so relaxing. I've been listening to them while writing lately and I think it's helped me (I write books). It's less distracting than listening to music since I tend to hum along with the song... and I've always needed a sound to "block out" when writing or reading. It helps me focus. I'm weird lol. I posted a few questions on a website meant to help out people trying to start making ASMR videos, so we'll see if I get any helpful answers so I can start ordering what I need. Until then, I could use my computer mic but it won't be 3D sound and will be low quality.

I am so glad you started this thread Batbandit - I may be a little late to the party replying, but I happened to see your post when quickly dropping into the forum a while back and was intrigued as to what ASMR stood for. Becoming active on the forums again recently jogged my memory about your post and so I looked into it and instantly recognized what I was reading; I just never had a name for it before nor realised so many others experienced it and that there was so much info and videos out there! It's early days into learning more about it, but I already know hair brushing is my #1 trigger. I have long hair and like learning new styles now and again, and am always rendered into a pile of jelly from hair videos LOL I seem to like tapping and seeing objects handled gently and carefully too, but I still have so much to try out. I'm downloading some ASMR videos onto my MP3 player as I type - am looking forward to finding more triggers for me!

I've started my YouTube channel. ^_^ It's called " Relaxing Sounds & Games" because not only will I be posting sound clips, but some soft spoken Minecraft gameplay. I also might do some readings of public domain literature and some of my own writing. I'd appreciate any feedback on what I have now and any suggestions for other things I can do. Also, I thought I'd link to my favorite things to listen to before bed: Deep Ocean of Sounds. Just last night I found another collection of relaxing sounds called " ASMR Therapy." I haven't listened to them all yet, so so far I like what I hear. ^_^

It always awesome to get someone new in the community! ^^ If you like, I can make some channel recommendations? I like hair brushing sounds too! My #1 trigger is probably up close whispering or soft spoken. C: RogueRowan: I just subscribed! ^^ I love your videos so far and I cant wait to see what you'll put up next.

Thanks! I won't be posting often because I have to record at night when the house is quiet, but I will post sporadically.
