Thanks for all the details and advice! I love it! I have a bunch of tabs open on the wiki -- I don't want to spoil it for myself, but also don't want to be in a "I wish I'd known that from the start" situation. You say you have animals -- can they all be in the same enclosures/pastures (what it looks like on your screenshot). It's good to know the process of feeding them (and also collecting crops) can be automated! The greenhouse looks tiny! I'm surprised there's enough room in there to make it profitable growing stuff year-round! What about your starfruit fields? Do they sit empty in Spring/Fall/Winter? (I actually like the idea -- more time for other things). Do spouses actually play a role in your farm, or they're just around for company? Are you still finding things to do, or discovering things this far into the game, or just when they have a major update? Anyway... going to read the wiki some more before I start anything. Thank you!
EDIT:
I just saw this layout for the Forest Farm, and really like it! Does it look like it has all the necessities? (and what are those pink trees and crops?) Looks like the green areas in that farm are limited to non-crop/pasture items.

No problem! I'm the same way with wanting to avoid the whole "I'd wish I'd known that from the start." Animals can all be in the same enclosures/pastures! I believe there's 4 types of coop animal and 4 types of barn animal and they can all be together. The nice thing about the greenhouse, sheds, and all the other buildings is they are bigger on the inside than they are the outside! Lots of people actually use all the excess space in barns for kegs and whatnot (since you can place things in barns) rather than building a shed. While the greenhouse is 7x6 on the outside, the inside has a 10x12 plot of land for growing things I think (and you can use a glitch to put trees inside around the edges of the greenhouse, unless that's been patched). I was wrong about how long star fruit takes to grow, it takes 13 days. So every 13 days I can harvest 120 star fruit (well 120 minus maybe 4 because I use a few spaces for sprinklers). As for the fields where I grow star fruit, during the spring and fall I grow other crops. I just mainly grow a little bit of everything, and focus a bit more on what's most profitable. In the winter I don't grow anything outside and normally just rearrange stuff. They play a role but barely. I believe the list of things they do is something like: mending fences, watering crops, feeding animals, and giving you food, but those are all sometimes things. I think you can kiss them once a day to restore health? And while mending fences is nice, once your farm is automated, your spouse feeding the animals or watering crops isn't super helpful lol. Each spouse I believe has a special thing. Based on memory, once I got 10 hearts with Emily she requested I bring her fiber which she turned into a unique outfit for me! So different spouses should have different 10 heart events I believe. Also if you don't want a spouse, there is someone you can get as a roommate instead... If you want kids you also need a spouse for that, but kids don't really do much lol.
I'm still finding things to do and discovering things in game even without major updates! I play on the switch which gets updates slower than pc. So there was one update that added secret notes, that you'd find and it'd say what villagers liked or it'd tell you to go somewhere at a specific time for a reward. I haven't read about all the secret note rewards yet so I'm still finding out about little stuff like that. And I'm definitely still finding things to do. I want to build the obelisks on my farm but they cost 1 mil each, and I only have a bit over 1 mil. I still have so much to do! I also have yet to catch every fish and stuff like that. I actually haven't played much recently because of some glitches in the new update. The new update added a LOT which is exciting! But on the switch, the new island is a little buggy. In the one area the ground is a vivid blue! I'm waiting for that to be fixed. I think it has all the necessities! I don't think you need that many barns imo and you could switch some out for coops. TBH the slime building isn't much of a necessity either. I would personally do less barns and more sheds and silos. I think the green areas may have berry bushes and trees that drop renewable hardwood (which is really good) which is why you can't put crops and buildings there.
The pink trees look to be cherry trees! You could definitely do a mixture of fruit trees rather than just all cherry. I have oak trees on my farm to get oak resin to build kegs. And if I'm looking at the right thing, those pink crops are iridium sprinklers. They're the best sprinklers in game and they water the largest area/radius of crops.

After sitting in my Steam library since 2017 (!!!) I played Hitman: Absolution a couple of weeks ago. It was a bit of a rough start, but I stuck with it and ended up really enjoying it, despite its flaws. By some stroke of luck I finished it just as the Lunar New Year sale was on, so I'm now working my way through HITMAN (2016) and HITMAN 2 and having a whale of a time travelling to all these beautiful locations, exploring and finding aaaaalll the creative ways to get rid of my targets.
My Mum now asks me "What did you get up to today?" and I tell her "Well, I dressed up as a giant flamingo mascot, lured a waiter into a stairwell, knocked him out and stole his clothes so I could spike my target's drink without anyone noticing, followed them to the bathroom and murdered them while they were puking..." I am a nice person in real life, I swear

Has anyone here played Satisfactory? It looks really interesting to me! I'd want to play it with someone else though but I don't know anyone who has it. I finally decided to look them up though and I had no idea they were sandbox games! Well I knew they were to some extent but it seems very sandbox-y and not super story heavy? Idk. Anyway, I love sandbox games and now I really want to play haha but I'm curious curious about what parts you did or didn't like! Or if you preferred the first or second game?

I've had it in my wishlist since it released in Early Access, but I'm trying to force myself not to buy a game in Early Access... (and hopefully at least 50% off). So it's probably going to be a while until I get it. But when I do, I'd love to play it with you! I've very much into sandboxy games, too, and this one looks really interesting and right up my alley!

I wouldn't mind buying the game in early access because it definitely seems like it has a lot of content and is really good already! Though I thought I heard multiplayer still needs working on but I'm not sure. I've seen it go on sale before but I'm hoping it will get cheaper. I probably won't get it for a while either but I'd love to try playing it together! I love sandbox/open world games and this one seems like it really capitalizes on the desire to just do more and more and more. I mentioned how my stardew farm is pretty automated and efficient and it seems that satisfactory is also about producing as much as possible while automating everything, so I can see how that would be addicting.
I'm also interested in playing No Man's Sky if anyone has played that recently! I played it on launch day but haven't since lol. I'd like to get it on sale on the PC because I know a ton has been added. Is multiplayer easy to do in NMS? That's another one I'd rather not play alone haha.

^^ Thanks for the link, Magica ! Going to add that to my YouTube watchlist! RebeccaMonkey , it does look quite advanced for Early Access, indeed, so I might consider buying it before full release when the price is right, especially since it has overwhelmingly positive ratings I'm also interested in playing No Man's Sky if anyone has played that recently! I played it on launch day but haven't since lol. I'd like to get it on sale on the PC because I know a ton has been added. Is multiplayer easy to do in NMS? That's another one I'd rather not play alone haha. I clocked almost 200 hours in No Man Sky since release! Played quite a bit after each major update, except the last one or two (was too busy finishing The Witcher 3 GOTY and other games). I have only played in Creative mode so far cause I prefer exploring and building than dying (which still allows me to casually go through the campaign and quests at my own pace), and never tried multiplayer yet. But that's definitely one I'd be interested in trying with a friend, so it feels less lonely up there. I wouldn't mind starting a fresh new game for that, as I'm not sure how all those major updates affected my original game (I understand they've fleshed out the main story line quite a bit since release, which was completely lost to me being farther in the game already). On a side note, what Hello Games did with NMS since release is nothing less than spectacular! They've added and improved the game SO MUCH it's unrecognizable and absolutely amazing now! There are so many different ways to play and things to do, totally up to the player! (which I love). Really commendable.

I've played over 170 hours of NMS only in normal game mode and with multiplayer on. I've never encountered another player in my journeys. But they've also patched multiplayer, so there's now an option to make "friends only" sessions and only Steam friends can join your game. Also, there's a new option to allow/not allow base editing for friends in your game. So not just anyone can join you and grief your base and kill you (there's also nothing to gain by killing players, so why would people be mean and do this??) D: My sister and I play almost every night. xD We can help build each other's base and go on missions from the Nexus together. (The Nexus is a multiplayer hub and is the only place where I've been around other players - no killing allowed here) However, there are still some bugs/issues that we've come across in multiplayer, but for most part it's been super fun and does make the journey less lonely! It should also be noted, that when you join someone else's game, you will be teleported to their location, but you won't stay there when you log out and relog in. In my single player game, I'm in the middle of travelling to the galactic center, but when I join my sister's game, I'm on the other side of the galaxy with her. xD It will save everything you've accomplished/built/purchased/etc. just not your player position. c: Sorry if I'm rambling. xD I just want to help encourage you (and anyone) to play NMS as it's very fun and SO beautifully creative! I'm also a space nerd so I LOVE the idea of exploring different planets and galaxies.

Oh, not at all! I LOVE talking about my fave games just you try and stop me lol
Hitman: Absolution got a lot of flak for being a LOT more linear than its predecessors and providing a lot less opportunity for experimentation, for having a completely rubbish/broken disguise system and for being a lot more story heavy with a frankly ridiculous plotline (but somehow I love it, lol.) A lot of fans say it's a fairly good game in its own right, it's just not a good Hitman game. I did find it a bit clunky and frustrating at times, but the storyline motivated me to keep playing to find out what happens, and I'll be interested to see how I do with it on a second playthrough with the experience of the other games also under my belt.
The only reason I played it as my first entry into the series was because it's predecessor (Blood Money) whilst well lauded was a little too aged for my personal gaming tastes (think it was 2006?) and I couldn't for the life of me work out how to purchase HITMAN 2016 the first time I came across it (it originally released as an episodic title, tres confusing) so I plumped for Absolution because it was in between the two of them and was only a few £££ on sale, lol.
I was drawn to try it because the likes of Dishonored, Deus Ex: Human Revolution/Mankind Divided and Prey (2017) had given me a real taste for stealth games, although they lean far more toward the immersive sim side of things. I'd never played a sandbox game before so I was interested to try some stealth seasoned with a slightly different flavour.
For me personally, even though Absolution's plotline was completely ridiculous I LIKED having all that story going on, and even though HITMAN (2016) and HITMAN 2 have got a storyline (carrying on into the third game, released in January, that I haven't played yet, sob) I found myself craving more. I'd be hesitant to play another sandbox game, because I have now realised that storyline is a huge motivator for me to play a game. The two more recent games have a bunch of mission "stories" and "challenges" that encourage you to replay them a bunch of times, but I'm finding I'm not terribly motivated to do so without the sweet, sweet reward of more story and I tend to get annoyed and impatient if some of them are a little too convoluted. I really enjoyed the first time I played each mission, going in totally blind and taking my time exploring, eavesdropping on people, and just seeing what opportunities I came across or fell into my lap. It kind of saps the fun for me to go in with the mindset of "got to do it this way."
The good news is that both HITMAN (2016) (and HITMAN 2) allows you to download and play the first mission of each game as a kind of demo on Steam, so I'd say just give it a whirl and see what you think! The episodic release of the first game and wierd upgrade packs and stuff offered with the second are utterly, utterly bewildering so if you like it, the best/cheapest way to buy it is to wait for a Steam sale and purchase HITMAN 2 along with the GOTY Legacy pack; this will give you all of HITMAN 2016's content within H2 so you can play through them one after the other. It was intended that all three games would sort of "link together" into one huge, seamless "World of Assassination" but given that the third game is an Epic exclusive until next year (boohissboo) I'm not quite sure how that works yet.
Won't be on the forums as much for the forseeable future, but totally happy to talk more about it if you have more questions! Let me know if you start playing and what you think of it

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition (includes both huge DLCs, normally $49.99) is currently 80% on sale on GOG ($9.99), which is its lowest price ever! One of my very favorites, and then there's Geralt!

RebeccaMonkey and Ratqueen how did i miss you guys talking about stardew! I have hundreds of hours in it... i play on switch also. My first and favourite farm was forest farm. I'm currently working on a beach farm as that's the newest one. It has such a tiny patch you can grow crops in(2 Junimo huts can harvest it and overlap more than half of the field) T-T so I have to use my farm over on ginger island as well as my greenhouse for most of my crops, though you can grow in the sand you cant put the sprinklers down so its mostly used for fodder. The river farm is actually okay. Each little island I made into its own category, animals on one. crops on another and so on. I'm married to Sebastian in it and his perk is he occasionally brings you back gems or other mine items as well as all the things Rebecca said. I'm also the person who dated everyone and got them all to 10 hearts and saw the cutscenes for getting caught or not if you have the rabbit foot xD Have you been able to find an ostrich egg yet?

Have you been able to find an ostrich egg yet? Unfortunately I have not found one yet! I’ve been spending so much time on Ginger Island though (I built the house there) that I’ve been neglecting my family and animals lol. Since I sleep there I don’t always say hi to my wife, kid, or animals for a few days at a time haha. I’m currently trying to collect all the fossils on Ginger Island for that one guy but I’m hoping to get an ostrich egg soon. I think there’s a journal scrap that leads you to one so I’m hoping to find that soon.

I've been playing Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild for the first time.
Today I learned that the bomb arrow will immediately explode in your face if you try to use it in areas of intense heat (the kind that cause all your wooden weapons to catch fire). And because physics-- I blew myself straight off of a cliff I had spent time climbing 😣 Luckily I didn't die--was saved by one of my power-ups 🤣 (she's always saving my butt ever since I 'saved' her... hahaha)

Has anyone here played a game called Cattails? It looks like a cute Stardew-ish game with cats but I'm on the fence about getting it. I keep seeing people mention Warrior Cats in connection to it and I'm not really sure if it's as fun for someone who isn't into Warrior Cats. If anyone has played it, I'd love to hear their opinions! Especially about whether there's a lot to do after you finish the main storyline.
