I don't know what happened, but I can't get on certain websites such as tumblr, google.com, youtube, hotmail, etc. I don't know why. All that happened was I was watching some youtube videos, and I accidentally clicked a link in the description. Then something about surveys and stuff popped up, and so I just naturally closed it. But when I did some file started downloading so I stopped it. It was a random file. I moved it to my recylcing bin and deleted it as well.
Now, whenever I try to get onto the sites I'm faced with an image of Gandalf saying you shall not pass. and the tab says What is You lookin here.
i seriously don't know what happened, my computer says it's protected and I'm running a scan now, but I honestly don't know what the hell has happened and it's stressed me out to high heavens and oh goodness. I'm afraid it's a virus but my computer says I'm protected so I don't even know? ahh. i don't know. please help.
thank you so much in advance.

Virus scanners are crap, I've not had problems but ny friend running the same scanner constantly has problems.
What are you running?
Once you've ran your virus scanner, download malware bytes and run that to see if it picks anything up

after a quick and cautious Google, it seems to be an infamous trojan! Sometimes even if you're 'actively protected' by an anti-virus, it isn't necessarily precaution enough. My guess is that in this case, you definitely weren't! Because a series of automated pop-ups/viruses got you. Can I ask what anti-virus software and browser you use? It's important to use the most updated version of your web browser, and something that's compatible with lots of different and regularly updated protection. I personally recommend Mozilla Firefox, which works very well with avast! (which in my experience is a good anti-virus software) and, very relevant here, a browser add-on called Adblock Plus. www.avg.com/gb-en/homepage (loads of free, very good protective software available here!) Frustratingly, what often happens after a virus has downloaded is that, even if you delete what looks to be the suspicious file, it can still be wreaking havoc! Actually sometimes when you delete files, they're carefully engineered so that that makes things worse. In the future, I would recommend: never interact with suspicious files! Run an anti-virus and allow that to quarantine them instead never interact with pop-up windows where possible! If something does get through your protection, assuming you're using a PC, press and hold the alt key and then hit the F4 key. This closes the present window without any interaction from the mouse, which sometimes surprisingly stops potential viruses in their tracks have your browser set to automatically clear cookies and history when you close it as for getting rid of the virus, here's some free software that you can download in the mean time that should clean your PC up nicely: www.malwarebytes.org/lp/malware_lp/?gclid=CPq69PLJg7cCFbMQtAodQ0cAwQdownload.cnet.com/Trojan-Remover-Update/3000-8022_4-10038982.htmlwww.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tdsskiller/and to install afterwards, for protection/tune-up!: www.getnow.com/windows/security-privacy/antispam-antispy-tools/spybot-search-destroy/?refid=763www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.htmlwww.superantispyware.com/this is assuming you're using a PC! If you're on Mac/Linux let me know and I'll see what else I can find. If you can't access any of the above websites try either accessing them via a proxy, or (if possible) restarting your computer in safe mode and doing it that way if you need me to explain anything more or basically any extra help, let me know!

Thanks guys! I had talked to a friend and we realized it was a virus, and so I installed Malwarebytes, and two more. I ran scans, and while a few malwares were detected, I still had the problem. I learned about doing a system restore, however, which fixed the problem completely. Now I have malwarebytes and I'm gonna be doing more scans more often. I was running something called Microsoft Security Essentials, which didn't pick anything up that the other antiviruses did. Definitely not gonna be using that any more!
But thank you for all the helpful links & such. (: Will be keeping those in mind if this ever (hopefully not) occurs again. c:
