So my daughter's birthday was last weekend, and she is now 3 years old! Crazy! Anyway, I wanted to make her a special cake and since she doesn't have a favourite colour yet, I decided on a rainbow one! This was the result and I'm quite proud of it, if I do say so myself. [Linked for size] Photo1Photo2It's just a recipe for regular white cake, doubled. Then it's divided into 6 bowls and dyed 6 different colours. I frosted it with lemon butter cream and regular white fondant. The little decorations I bought for a couple bucks as I am terrible at writing in icing! I so want to do this for my son's 2nd birthday, which is coming up in January, except in different colours. Perhaps blue, green and brown made with chocolate cake! =O

Aww, how special! My mom always made my birthday cake, every year--and by now I may not remember all of the presents I got, but I do remember those lovely cakes. It's neat that you're putting this kind of effort into it, I'm sure they'll have a lot of fond memories of very special birthdays.

I love it, looks so yummy! Funnily enough I've been watching YouTube videos on how to make various rainbow treats. I want to make rainbow cookies, cake and rainbow jelly. *yum!*

Thanks guys! It was fun making it. I've made rainbow bread before too and the kids loved it! This was much more difficult though, what with the baking of 6 layers and icing, and rolling out of fondant like.
Lots of work but great result. I was so happy that it turned out. I thought it was going to be absolute crap haha.
