Are hexies art, or just programming? Are they remotely artistic at all, or are they simply coded pixels? This seems to be a subject of fierce debate! Some hexers (or adopters of hexies) seem to defend their artwork to the hilt. Others feel that hexing is just programming, changing numbers, and can't possibly be considered art. Personally I feel that petz is a creative outlet and that well-hexed petz are definately art. By 'well hexed' I mean thought and time/effort has gone into a pet, not just a few small changes in PWS..

I think hexing is most definitely art! Just because it involves changing/adding numbers doesn't mean it's not art. Someone has to intentionally put together colors, textures, and shapes to obtain a finished product. To me, that's art ;D

Yes, I think hexing is art. At first, it may seem nothing like art, just staring at a bunch of numbers, but when it's finished, it's beautifully designed. And like what Janelle said, they intentionally put together colors, textures, etc. So, yeah. I think it's art. (:

Well, yes. I mean if you do it all in PWS/minor changes in LNZ like most people do it is. If you do it in in LNZ for the majority, although you're doing it all in numbers there is still an artistic thought process behind it. Though it's not fair to say one person's hexie is not art just because they're not as good..

I think it is all art, good and bad. Although the aesthetics of a particular pet may not be appealing to you, they are sure to be beautiful to someone. I also believe that no matter how you create the hex, if it is pleasing and has qualities that you find enjoyable and pleasing beyond the "play" nature of the pet, it is art.

I think it is. If Tracey Emin's messed up bed counts as art, then hexies definitely are.

Hexing is art, it is a creative process, what is 'art' is not definitive by how 'good' an image is, in anyone but the creators eyes.

me and my friend had the worst debate over this. Well, not really a debate. More of a fight. She has problems with separating those two... Basically, her arguments failed harddd. She said it wasn't art because "all you had to do is move your wrist a little" lol wtf? that has nothing to do with it. and it most of the time it's not just recoloring a base and slapping spots on it. It's done with thought, as to how the colors blend and such. Not just "change a few numbers and INSTANT REALLY COOL HEXIE EVERYONE WANTS" It does take talent. So, yes it is art. No question about it.

DO IT NOW I demand it
But she did put a good argument though. She said saying hexing is art, is like saying pokemon spriting is art. But is pokemon spriting art? I'm still not sure about that one...I mean, I guess you could think of it that way. Speaking of which, are coloring books art? I think they are. If you color those right they can look amazing.
