I've seen a lot of not-so-good poses being entered in shows lately, and it seems that a lot of newcomers to the dogz showing world may be a little confused about what a bad pose looks like. I decided to make a thread to help all the confused people out there
Standing
You're going to notice when a dog poses. When he simply stands and looks at the camera, it's not a pose. Here are some pictures of dogz "standing":
See how their chests aren't puffed and their heads aren't held high? That's how you know your dog isn't in a correct "pose."
Overposing
Sometimes your dog will go a little crazy and will go into an "overpose." Here are some pictures of dogz overposing:
Their chests are really big and round and their heads are really high. Your dog usually will go into an overpose after its normal pose, so you should notice what the overpose looks like on your dog (it varies with every breed).
Alignment
When your dog is correctly aligned, you should only be able to see two legs (one front leg & one back leg). The feet should poke out and the toes should be even on both feet. Here are some examples of incorrectly aligned dogz.
I can see all the legs on both dogz, and the toes are nowhere near being even.
GSD pose
Sometimes it's hard to tell when a GSD is posing. Here is an example of a GSD simply standing, out of pose.
His chest isn't puffed out and his head is not held high.
This is a picture of a GSD in pose. See the difference? (This isn't a perfect pose, but you get the general idea.)
Left pose
When your dog is facing the left in his pose, it's always incorrect. If you enter a left pose in a show, it will most likely be disqualified. Here is an example of a dog posing to the left:
Especially don't flip your left pose around, making it a right pose. That's editing, which is against the rules.
Eyes in Dane Pose
The eyes in a dane pose MUST be facing the camera. In this pose, the dog's eyes are looking elsewhere.
Now that you know what a BAD pose looks like, go to this thread, petzforum.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=posing&action=display&thread=1079252025, to find out how to pose your dog properly!
Good luck in shows!
If there's anything someone wants me to add to this thread, just ask and I'll work on it
