I'm a graphic design student and I find that a PC is JUST AS GOOD as a Mac and cheaper.
You can get an 17.5 inch (which is nice for my uses) HP with more memory and a better hard drive for same/less as you would get an itty bitty Mac with half as much memory and not as good of a hard drive so it was just the better choice in my opinion.
And my laptop can run Adobe Illustrator and such exactly the same as a Mac would (it's fast! and if I got a Mac I wouldn't be able to afford the better ones cuz they are too expensive) and I have a good graphics card too and I didn't have to pay a fortune for a "cool" brand name.
Oh yeah and I never get virus'. Why? Simply because I actually bought a good program? Lol. If you don't protect your PC...yea, it will have issues. I use Kaspersky and it's worked very well!

There's a huge size difference in hard drives & RAM with macs & PCs, though. I'm uploading all my TV stuff for my course at the moment and some of the files are like....36GB each. That's huge. It'd take up like....a quarter of my PC's hard drive The mac I have at Uni has a terrabyte hard drive so I can put pretty much ALL of my projects on it and still have room to breathe.

^ the most expensive Mac on the market has the same RAM as the most expensive PC... but it's like, £4000 more, or something incredibly STOOPID. XDD
Idk, I can use either - but if I had to choose one for my personal use, for home, I'd go for a PC every single time.

Macs are pretty and all but I could never get used to them for various reasons: - I cannot find the "On" button... "It's in the back of the screen!" my mom will say. So, after about five minutes I'm still running my hand around the back of the screen. Turns out, the button is invisible, and lights up when you press it. Uhh... - I double click things. Double clicking things on a Mac deletes them. And I can't find them again. - I will never remember the equivalent of "CTRL" or rightclicking on the key board or mouse. - BEACH BALL OF DOOM. Every second.
So I'll stick to PC.

It's strange as the Mac is not very old, doesn't have many programs, and is basically only used to check email, but it is constantly breaking down. I gotta say I love the iPod Touch/iPhone, though, works very well.
