I'm wondering how many hours of sleep you need to feel good and refreshed when you wake up -- not necessarily how many hours you actually sleep, as I know a lot of people who don't/can't sleep well.
For me, it's 7 hours these days. I wake up automatically if I try to sleep longer, and I feel dead tired if I sleep less (even by just a half hour).

I need around 8 hours of sleep, typically. Sometimes I sleep more, but that's only if I'm really tired from something that happened that previous day. If I get less than 8 hours, I'm okay the next day, but maybe just a smidge more irritable. xP

Hmmm. I'm really not sure anymore.
My sleep cycle gets reversed during the summer, and since this is the first year I'm going to college (and the school days are super short and it's not everyday that I have to go) my sleep cycle is still messed up.
If I fall asleep after getting home, which is usually around about noon, I (unfortunately) sleep for much too long and end up waking up around 9 PM or later.
And then I'm awake for either the rest of the night or until around 5-6 AM.
It's a mess. :P
EDIT: OH. But as a rule, I can get about 4 hours of sleep for any given day and get through it pretty normally. Unless something particularly boring happens.

I usually stay up till 11:00pm and get up at 8:00am. Staying up too late is a really bad habit that I need to stop. >>"

I need like 9hrs, but I get about 6 during the week. I've always been a sleeper. I was reading in some mag the other day that when removed from the stresses of modern society and work and all that, humans sleep about as much as orangutans-a little more than 10 hrs.

I was reading in some mag the other day that when removed from the stresses of modern society and work and all that, humans sleep about as much as orangutans-a little more than 10 hrs. ^ I was wondering why I sleep so much...I don't work very often anymore, so I usually go to bed anywhere from 10pm to 1am and wake up around 10-11am, sometimes it's even almost noon...But I can't even wake up at 8 or anything, if I try, I'm just so tired I go right back to sleep, it's like I'm dead until 11am then poof, I'm awake!

I've gone to class on 2 hours of sleep before... I remember looking back on my notes and going wtf was I writing, hahaha.
I can function on about 4 - 5 hours of sleep. Not well, but I can get through the day lol. Usually I try to get at least 7 if I have class/work in the morning.

I NEED around 8, but I get around.. 7-ish. Sometimes less. I hate sleeping because I consider it a waste of time, haha. It's boring to me, which scares me actually. I sleep in a lot though. And I sorta need sleep because my blood pressure is usually low and/or my anemia kicks in and I'm tired anyways.

I hate sleeping because I consider it a waste of time, haha. It's boring to me I used to feel exactly the same about sleeping -- a complete, boring waste of time. Now that my life's become rather boring and repetitive though, I enjoy sleeping more. My dreams are often a lot more interesting/exciting than my life. How sad is that?

I usually sleep 2-4 hours... but we all know I'm an insomniac... I like to get 4-6 though... but that rarely happens If i sleep too long I'm tired all day and rather useless... but if i sleep too little my head will swim for about 2-5 hours and I'm rather incoherent for the duration and then i get an energy rush and its like i slept a full night xD
BUT i have come to think that my insomnia and major lack of sleep comes to the fact, i love the night... I get all my energy and ideas at night so i will be up until 4-5am and then sleep... but then coz i live in a house with 'morning people' i get woken up between 7-9... Artemis i agree! I find sleep to be a waste of time too.

I love sleep. I need less than 4 hours of it to function normally (as an insomniac, my body has realised this & learnt to cope) but I like about 10 hours of it. Occasionally when I'm really dead tired, my insomnia gives me a break... and I'll just sleep, and sleep, and never want to get up.
Oddly, I can deal at either extreme (4 or 10 hours of sleep) but if I get 8, I feel even more tired than when I get 4??
I'm always tired anyway. I might be anemic, actually; my mother is, and it'd explain a lot of stuff about me. xDD

I usually get 6-8 hours depending on the day. I -try- to get to bed by midnight but that doesn't always happen XD. If I sleep past 9-10 AM I am crabby, tired and just not right. In the summer when I was in high school I'd stay up til 3-4 AM and sleep in past noon >>;

I loooove sleeping, my bed is my little comfort zone. Plus I get Jono cuddles :3 I also need about 8+ hours of sleep to NOT be a grumpy mare the next day
