I'm working on a new Catz 5 breed and I need to know if the texture named hair3.bmp is included in Catz 5? I'm using it in my new breed, but now I'm wondering if it didn't come with Dogz 5 only (it's used on the Scottie), which would force me to make the texture external if Catz 5 didn't come with it too... So, basically, I need someone who has Catz 5 and DOESN'T have Dogz 5, to check whether or not the hair3.bmp texture is included or not. In my game, it's included both in the Dogz 5 Rez.dll and Petz 5 Rez.dll files. I'm not even sure if there IS a Petz 5 Rez.dll file if someone only has Catz 5 installed, but I suppose that's where the hair3.bmp would be if it's included. You can check easily with ResHacker -- look in the BMP section. Thank you very much!

Ah, too bad! I guess I'll make my breed without using that texture then, so it's not a bother to use the breed Thanks for the quick reply

The list you have is for Petz 3 and 4. Bitmaps are handled differently in Petz 5. The Hair3.bmp is in the Petz Rez.dll and can be used by both catz and dogz in Petz 5. However, remember that Hair3.bmp would have to be set up as an external file with the same path as used in Petz 5 in Petz 3 and 4 Versions of your breed.
If you don't have Resource Hacker, download it and use it to look at the dll and exe files in all versions of Petz. You will be able to see (and extract) all the hidden bitmaps.

Thanks for the extra info, Minibytes. I wasn't sure if the Petz Res.dll comes with both Catz 5 and Dogz 5 separately, or if it's only available when we have both games? If it's available with Catz 5 by itself, then I could use that hair texture for my new Catz 5 breed, which would make me quite happy I understand what you mean about the textures in Petz 3 and 4 too now - thanks to the clear explanations you emailed me the other day about the conversions Jas made of my other breeds EDIT: Yes, I meant what Star is saying... (oops, her second post just disappeared) I need to know if people who ONLY have Catz 5 also have the Petz Res.dll installed or not. I have ResHacker and, when opening the Catz Res.dll, I didn't see that texture. So, if they only have the Catz Res.dll installed, then the hair3.bmp texture is not included, I guess? Unless Petz Res.dll is part of Catz 5 too... Which is what I was unsure about.

RQ, just to point this out... I routinely use dogz-only textures on my catz breeds and vice versa but post a warning about their nature and a link to Carolyn's site. Her catz-in-dogz/dogz-in-catz systems basically give you the PetzRes.dll, among other things, and allow any user to get the bmps they lack without having to go to the store and fork over any more cash. So if it's seriously going to crimp your hexing style, you may want to consider that.

Thank you PlaidButterfly I just like to make it as easy as possible for people to use my breeds, without having to download anything else, or unzip any external texures. I just like the look of hair3.bmp and thought it would look nice on my new Persianish breed - giving it a more fluffy look. But I'll probably go without if the texture has to be external. I'll bet nobody would even notice the breed has this texture except hexers anyway I guess I'll wait on either Star or Minibyte to be sure whether it's included in Catz 5 only

The hair3.bmp is in the Petz 5 Rez.dll. The problem, however, is in the Petz 3 and 4 versions. In those versions the hair3.bmp is available only for Dogz and an external bmp is necessary if it is used on a cat. No matter how you look at it, if you use hair3.bmp, you will need to have external bmp files for the Petz 3 and 4 versions.

Yes, I know that hair3.bmp is in the Petz 5 Res.dll and Dogz 5 Res.dll only, which is precisely why I was asking if Petz 5 Res.dll comes with Catz 5 I'm only making a Catz 5 breed though, as I don't have Petz 3 and 4. That's why I was only asking about Catz 5.

That's why I was only asking about Catz 5. That is NOT a good idea. You can always get people to convert files for you... but rely on people who really know what they are doing. A LOT of people hate Petz 5 or simply don't use it because more people can adopt Petz 3/4 petz. If you don't provide Petz 3 and 4 versions other gamers will try to convert them. In a situation like this, they are very likely to do the conversions incorrectly and the result will be a lot of adoption problems because the pets won't import to Petz 5 properly. Whenever someone makes a breed they should always consider providing versions for all three versions of the game OR, at the minimum, keeping the breed file simple to convert.
