Yes, I do believe I've found it! Even more obscure than the flea fix... but it's worked on the two infected Desert Lynxes and 3 Chinchilla Persians that I adopted and that were definitely falling asleep when I picked them up before, but not after, the fix.
So here it is:
(note: I'm editing this to give a better fix. The one I had in this message at first works, but not as perfectly as this latest one)
Search for YALP and then find the p.f.magicpetzIII which comes after that. Now, put your cursor directly before that p of p.f.m and select 1129 bytes. Immediately after that, in an infected pet, you should see a hex number 64 there. Change that to a smaller number.
You will then have to compensate for the checksum. The simplest is to pop that extra over one of the zero bytes directly below the .lnz data.
Eureka! Wakeful Desert Lynxs and Chinchilla Persians!
Let me know how you get on with this...
Cheers
Carolyn

OMG, Carolyn!! IT WORKS!!! You are a hexing goddess!! ;D *does a little dance* Now I've got quite a few beautiful catz I need to sleep-fix, as I didn't want to breed them just because of that! Is it okay if I include the fix in my turorial? (with credit to you in the topic, of course.) I want to add some screenshots with it too, so people don't get confused about where that byte is located. This problem has been bugging me for so long... Thank you!

Freedom for sick petz at last -- both the Alley fleas and the sleepy-syndrome. I'm so glad I was able to find the bytes -- to be honest, I really wasn't sure I'd ever be able to. Sleepycat had more faith in me than I had in myself... You're welcome! Sure, by all means add it to your helpfile tutorial -- the more people know how to cure their pets the better. If you want the Alley one too, go ahead. I know you'd give me an acknowledgement for my work, which I'd actually appreciate a lot because the Search for the Alley Byte (and thus leading to the Sleepy Byte) took a horrendous amount of time and screen-staring and Carolyn-has-no-Life syndrome ;D You might like to grab the ones that I put up on my Infobits page today, I thought it was important enough to make screengrabs, so I html-ised 'em complete with screengrab illustrations. I'm hoping people will be able to find the necessary bytes easily with those. Cheers Carolyn

I knew you'd find it too When someone asked about that in the Petz Talk forum, I immediately thought about you ;D Thank you And I completely understand how annoying it must be to have some people steal your work without acknowledging anything I think some just have no idea how much work and comparing must go into finding something like this. I've taken some screenshots of what I was doing when I tried to fix my first sleepy cat, to include in the help file, but I'll go look at what you have too

I knew you'd find it too When someone asked about that in the Petz Talk forum, I immediately thought about you ;D Awww ( blush ) it's frightening how much faith people have in my ability to work petz miracles! yes, I knew you'd understand. The longest (and quite depressing) part of the whole thing was when I was trying to find which area of a pet file contained the "genetic" information; once I'd found that it didn't take too long, but there are so many areas of a pet that need to be checked when you're looking for this particular kind of needle in the petz haystack. Of course it wasn't all wasted time because I did manage to find out more about the other areas in the meantime. Whatever works best for you is fine by me By the way, there is an addendum for people who are trying to fix petz that are straight out of the Adoption Centre and have not yet been put away and brought back out. It hadn't occurred to me that people might try this with a pet right out of the AC, LOL! The letters YALP (PLAY backwards, y'know) only occur after the pet has been played with once more after adoption. Once you understand where to look you can actually still fix an as-yet non-YALP'd pet; the byte is still in the same place relative to the particular instance of p.f.magicpetzIII. In a fresh-adopted pet which has not yet been put away/game closed and brought back out/game re-opened, search for the 4th instance of p.f.magicpetzIII and then you can get to the bytes you want -- directly 1129 for sleepy-sickness and 1221 for Alley-sickness. Can it work for dogz? It works for all petz. The structure of the pet file is the same for catz and for dogz, so if you have sleepy-syndrome dogz just give it a go. Remember to make a backup of your petfile somewhere safe first, though, in case you make a mistake. Cheers! Carolyn

Oh wow! Someone should sticky this! I want to try it, since I have a few sleepy Wildcat mixies! Thanks SO MUCH! Edit: Tried it and it WORKED! Beanstalk says thank you: "I'm not sleepy! Thank you Carolyn!" So, will installing Ratqueen's altered Spotted Wildcat (with RB personality) and using this on existing petz get rid of my cases of sleepy sickness altogether?

You're welcome, Beanstalk -- what a beautiful cat you are ;D Yes, Puma Girl, that should indeed do the trick. Happy breeding! Carolyn

So, will installing Ratqueen's altered Spotted Wildcat (with RB personality) and using this on existing petz get rid of my cases of sleepy sickness altogether? Yes, actually I tested this -- I'm now using the RB personality breed file, and fixed two of my sleepy mixies that I bred together, and got litters of non-sleepy Wildcat mixies for the first time! What a cute pic, Puma Girl, and such a nice way to say thanks to Carolyn
