I have a very basic question about overwriting files... I've never understood this. *feels stupid*
I have Sleepycat's overwriting Siamese and OSH files that are base-swapped to make them act like Maine Coons. If someone adopts one of my cats bred from those files and *doesn't* have SC's files, will the Meezers still act like Maine Coons or will they act like Meezers?
Does that make any sense?

I tested this recently, because I was wondering the same thing. At first, I thought the catz would still act as they were born, but they won't. They will act as whatever the breed file for their main breed dictates. For instance, I have some OShie mixies that were born with the Oshie personality, but if I have SC's overwriting breed file in, they will act like Maine Coons If I put the original OSH breed file back in, they will act like Oshies again. Same with the Siamese, and other baseswap breed files I have. In short, the personality comes from the breed files in at the moment.

It's interesting, because I *think* I observed just the opposite today. I had a purebred OSH that was born with the original file but I was playing with it today with the overwriting file in. And it was still quaking and shivering... I'll have to look into it more closely. I wasn't really paying too much attention.

Yes, I noticed that Oshies will still shake while walking, but they will no longer be scared and will pose normally I guess this breed only gets a partial personality swap -- the shaking must be inside the pet file, and the rest of the behavior inside the breed file

OK, then I'll advertise my OSHies as being OSHies and not Maine Coons. Thank you!
