Below is a detailed explanation of each available options for creating a poll.
1) Click the "New Poll" button at the top right of the board.
2) Type a subject that is directly related to your poll question in the "Subject" box. You can actually type the poll question in the subject, if it's short enough, or something shorter than your question which will let people know what the poll is about.
Nothing vague like "Do you like...?" or "Which is your favorite?"
3) Type your question in the "Poll Question" box. Make it very clear and unambiguous.
4) Type all the possible choices for your question in the "Answer" boxes. You can click the "Click to display more answer fields" link if you need more than 8 possible answers.
5) If you want people to be able to select more than 1 answer, type the amount of allowed answers in the "Number of Selections" box. The default is "1" -- change that number if necessary.
6) If your poll is time-sensitive, you can set for how many days/hours your poll will be open for voting in the "Poll Expiration" boxes. By default, a poll does not expire.
Please DO NOT add an expiration time to your poll unless it is directly relevant to your question.
7) You can use the available options in "Results Display" to change whether the results will be shown to members before they vote ("Always be shown", or only after they vote ("Be shown after voting").
Polls will usually not be locked (unless the particular question requires it), so please do NOT use the "Be shown after this poll is locked" option unless necessary.
8) The "Vote Retraction" options lets you to decide whether voters are allowed to remove their previous vote or not. This option is set to not allow members to retract their vote by default.
9) Type some text in the "Message" area. You can elaborate on your question to explain things in more details, or just retype your question there.
10) When you're sure everything is set the way you want it, click the "Post Message" button at the bottom to post your poll.
