So I'm trying to pose this cat, but the tail is less than stellar, so I'd like advice as to which is better: a) b) Also here is what I think is a slightly worse alignment but I'll throw these on here to get opinions on it too: c) d)

IMO, all of them show a little bit too much front leg on the right side. When a Calico-tailed cat is posed angled this way, it makes the tail curve look different (more curved, but often unevenly). I would repose the cat with the head angled every-so-slightly more towards the left (away from the camera) to obtain what I consider the optimum Calico-legged-tailed cat pose: with just a few pixels of legs showing on the left side instead of right, which will translate to a less curvy but more even Calico tail, and a tiny bit of space between the back legs.

o: Thank you for letting me know this secret technique! I'ma try, but I'm really awful at getting catz to align... I am currently really awful at it ^^;;
Anyway, while I do that, of these poses, which tail would probably be preferred? I might use this pose anyway because I won't be available this weekend much to do re-posing.

I think that, since the front legs and outlines are both black, some judges might not even notice the misalignment (will be hard to see on some monitors). However, the one white pixel showing all the way at the top of the leg (2 of them on pose C) indicate a two-pixel misalignment, not just the accepted 1 pixel on the left or right of a Calico leg. That's why I'm suggesting to repose when you get the chance, but it isn't really necessary.
To me (using a zoom), A, B, and D's front legs alignment are the same. So I'll pick my favorite tail out of the 3, which would be A (a little more curved). But if the tail tips of any of these 3 had not been slightly bending to the left, and even if the tail as a whole were slightly straigher (which is what a Calico tail often looks like when optmitally aligned), then I would have picked the most evenly curved instead.
C is the worst because of the 2-pixel deep legs misalignment. I usually place this type of misalignment as HM, unless there are other similar poses to compare to in the same show.
Don't get discouraged! Calico legs and tails (and Siamese legs and tails) are some of the hardest of all! Your catz Topknot, Awkward and Cadmium, for instance, were picture perfect!

(whoops I didnt meant to write awful twice in my sentence; I was on break at work when I typed this)
Thank you :'3 TBH I never know when they are aligned when I'm carrying them/spinning them around/drop them until they actually pose (makes the experience frustrating a bit). When they throw a perfect pose I cry for joy and thank them (because I'm literally just dropping them randomly without knowing what the perfect point to drop them is).
I'm not discouraged but usually I just pose 3-4 times and get the best pose of this posing session. I don't want to spend hours getting the perfect pose, but will try again next week (or some other arbitrary time limit). I usually try to submit what I've got just because I think its fun to let the catz compete. (I'm also really unhappy with my current pose for Mittens and want to show a better pose to not disappoint Commander!!! x3)

Okay so I was EXTREMELY determined to get the best pose I could from this here cat Mittens. So after posing this cat for like an hour, I learned about the types of poses: 1a) 1b) 1c) 1d) This first type, Mittens's front legs look perfectly aligned to me! I don't see much from the left leg, but maybe out the front? But because of that slight off-ness, the tail looks SO ugly! 2a) 2b) So in these poses, the left-front foot sticks out a bit I feel too much, but the tail curves out much nicer now!! Then I think this one seems JUST RIGHT: 3a) 3b) I like the tail here better but I can never tell what is the better Calico tail: a or b? Maybe a but sometimes I like b.... Thanks for any and all help!

Oh wow, I'm sorry, I never saw a notification that there was a new post in this board! I just saw it now, as I was checking the board for another post!
But yeah, pose 3a is definitely the best of them all. Indeed, the tail isn't as curved as another breed's tail, but that's exactly what an optimum Calico tail looks like when the front legs are aligned as best they can be.

Thanks! Calico tails are odd.
