Hi - I've successfully set up Catz 5 on my computer with the help of PetzA. I installed Catz 5 from the disc, then installed PetzA, which said it needed to automatically replace the file. I gave it the ok.
However, I'm now realizing I should have installed Dogz 5 before adding on PetzA. When I try to add Dogz 5, InstallShield Wizard begins for a fraction of a second but then says, "An installation support file could not be installed. Catastrophic failure". I figured, no worries, I'll uninstall everything then combine the two before adding PetzA. But the same thing happens when I try to uninstall Catz 5. Whether I uninstall manually through my computer's Control Panel or go to uninstall on the disc, it keeps saying the same error message about the installation support file and a catastrophic failure. I uninstalled PetzA hoping that would help, but it hasn't.
Thankfully Catz 5 still runs fine, but I really, really want Dogz on my game too. I actually like playing with the Dogz more, the Catz disc was just the one that was closer when I was installing them.
Does anyone know what's going wrong? I'm very much a newbie to this scene and was just trying to get the game working on my computer. Thanks so much if anyone can help!

I'm not sure how much help I will be able to be...
But for starters, what operating system are you using and where did you try to install your Catz and Dogz games to? The Petz games don't really like to be installed into Program Files on newer computers, so it's usually recommended to install them into a place like My Documents or some other custom folder.

I'm not sure how much help I can be either but I've had a little google about your issue and I think maybe your InstallShield Wizard has corrupted? answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/error-extracting-support-files-catastrophic/2faea46b-96ed-4b05-8f56-f49089fd1539One of the comments for a fix was: This just happened to me. It is an Installshield problem. I had to delete the installshield information for the program in question (located in [C:\Program Files (x88)\Installshield Installation Information] which is a HIDDEN folder) before it worked again. I would try having a google around using the key words "An installation support file could not be installed. Catastrophic failure" and see if any solutions work for you (there were a few and I don't really know which one will work for you! But hopefully something will) Good luck!

Thank you both for the help! Sorry I forgot to mention earlier that I am operating on Windows 10, so I'm not surprised that there's problems. I gave that trick a shot but it didn't fix it. The folder was actually empty even before I deleted it, and it probably needs some legitimate Petz 5 uninstall support file to operate. I'll keep looking into the issue though. At the very least, I can thankfully still play Petz 4. Thanks again for both of your replies.

Update: I got an outside program to uninstall Catz 5 entirely, and from there I was able to successfully install Dogz 5. However, now the same problem is occurring when I try to install Catz 5 to add Catz into the game. Since uninstalling is no longer the problem, I'm wondering if anyone has ideas on how to get Catz into the game other than installing Catz 5 using InstallShield. I have both discs but I seem to be a bit stuck.
Thanks if anyone can help! Thankfully now that I have Petz 4 running I'm not stressed out about it, but I'm still curious.
