Alright so I started playing Petz about 2 months ago and I've never done posing before that. I've read a few guides found on this forum, and I managed to get some good poses but I'm not sure the difference between these poses or what makes one better than another. I've decided to rank them from 1 (being good) to 3 (being the worst), but I'm just guessing? The last three I'm not sure. I am not sure how to tell alignment with this cat. I was also told that the wider the gap, the better so I'm not sure why 3 is not ranked higher. I'm not sure what else to look for. Thanks for anyone who could help! (If maybe there was an easier breed to tell, I should start there?)

It’s all in the front legs alignment and tail position. The space between the back legs doesn’t really matter (in the olden days, it was indeed said the wider, the better, but it turned out to be irrelevant). The space between them is determined by the type of legs and feet, and the cat’s alignment to the camera. So, as long as the cat is perfectly aligned, with his front legs lined up, the space between the back legs is what it is, and can't be any wider while still keeping the front legs aligned. Actually, too wide a space for specific legs/feet can help point out misalignment of the cat. For the tail, I look for the maximum achievable curve for that particular tail (depending on breed and type of tail), with the tip of it angled towards the head of the cat (I often use that little deTAIL as a tie breaker). I recognized your picture #1 as one I have placed BIS twice in my shows. It's a perfect honey bear pose, with the front legs perfectly aligned and the tail in the optimum position for this tail and body type! A catz 5 breed that is very willing to pose and relatively easy to align are the Egyptian Maus. I have tons of Egyptian Mau mixies because I love their big ears!

Thanks for the comments! Ratqueen I don't think I've adopted an Egyptian Mau, I'll have to see what they look like! Maybe my question is more, how do I tell that this cat is aligned? I'm not going to lie that poses 1 and 2 look the same to me. 3 has more leg space, but it looks aligned to me too! And now that I know pose 1 has the perfect leg spacing, C looks like a contender? I'm super new to this so this is just one of those things that I have no idea how to tell what is the best alignment on these catz.

There are several ways to tell that a cat is aligned, but the most visible is by looking at their front legs. They should be perfectly aligned, with no bit of the other leg showing either to the right or left side. It’s a bit harder to tell on a cat with fuzz like the honey bear. I’m just very used to the way they pose. Poses 1, 2, and C are the best of the 6. None are actually bad, but 3 is the worst of the 6 because the alignment is slightly off (I can tell from the thicker appearance of the front legs AND wider space between the back legs). You can find more details and examples of how to tell a cat is aligned in the catz posing guide pinned in the Show Arena

But as you said, I have a hard time telling the alignment of fluffy catz. But I'm glad to know the exact spacing for Honey Bear legs because now I can just use that as a reference. ^^ I really appreciate the help so much! But I feel like my questions are really specific to Honey Bears: like of those three 1, 2, and C, how do you determine one is more superior to another? Maybe they are all the same? You can find more details and examples of how to tell a cat is aligned in the catz posing guide pinned in the Show Arena Yes! That guide is amazing by the way. I used it a lot to get a good idea of how posing works and the quiz was a lot of fun! Thank you so much for making this! <3 Anyway I am very grateful for all these answers!! Thank you for the time you've put into typing this to help me when I have possibly newbie questions! <3 <3

I really appreciate the help so much! But I feel like my questions are really specific to Honey Bears: like of those three 1, 2, and C, how do you determine one is more superior to another? Maybe they are all the same? I see few differences between those 3 poses, and I’d say they are equally good. Poses 2 and C look identical, with the same little bit of fuzz at the bottom right of the front legs. Pose 1 doesn’t have it, and instead has a bit more fuzz near the bottom left of the front legs. Other than that, they look the same to me, and I would place either of them high in a show (of course, all depending of other entries in that show, too). And you’re very welcome!
