This is cross-posted from WW where I am a bit more active, but I love the show community here on RKC and value any/all of your feedback
hi everyone! it's me again, being annoyingly serious about showing...
there are few [petz-related] things I love more than an awesome dane pose. there are tons of variables when trying to achieve this type of pose, so when it finally happens, it's magic. danes look so great in a proper pose!
so, what IS a good dane pose? I've been having trouble with this question recently. in my experience back in the ~old days~, the most important part of a good dane pose was proper head alignment. the dog's face should be facing completely perpendicular to the camera, held high, ears aligned, eyes aligned ideally. second to this would be the leg alignment if it's not atrocious. from what I remember, this used to be super different from dali poses ---- a perfect dali pose will have the back toes aligned or off by just a single pixel, but i'm FAIRLY CERTAIN that back toe alignment was never necessary for a good dane pose. I remember it being more about the front wrists, and making sure the far front leg was as hidden as possible.
this seems to have changed? or maybe since there are fewer judges now, it's a smaller pool of preferences, or maybe we're looking at other shows to see what other judges like. but I've been seeing heavy emphasis on back toe alignment, even at the expense of a hidden front far leg. I personally prefer the way it looks when the far front leg is hidden and the back toes don't align but I've been catering to the recent judge preferences.
here's what I mean, if this is making no sense at all.
ALIGNMENT #1
front wrists/legs aligned, back toes not even
ALIGNMENT #2
back toes [nearly] aligned, far front leg visible
even if you don't judge shows or don't feel confident with profile poses, I'd still love to hear your opinion and perhaps start a dialogue. sorry that I take this so seriously
