Hello! I have entered MidnightWolf’s Gameplay contest, requesting and receiving what was once called “cat1”
Isn’t she adorable? I’ve never seen anything like her and I’m so excited to start working with her! Well, why wait? Let’s begin!
I took a lot of gifs for this Gameplay, but I didn't want to load down anyone's computers in trying to see this page, so while there are also many images, I decide to link to all the gifs so you can see them one at a time without causing computer problems. I hope that's alright. ^^'

So, when I first saw this contest, I fell in love with cat1, especially those adorable big paws. Therefore, to distract myself from taking part in the contest, I played around with what I would name it if I actually did enter. (That was not a smart avoidance plan, let me tell you). If it was a boy, I decided, I would name it Gifford and call him Giff for short (that’s a hard “g” as in “goat”).
However, she is a girl and I gave her the name which I came up with for that scenario, and I am so much more pleased with it.
Her name is Coraline, or Cori for short.
-Why'd you name it that?
Partially after a movie, called Coraline that I really like which features a feral (therefore almost alley) cat and after a childhood book featuring a feral cat named Coraline. Her nickname is Cori and that’s probably what I’ll be calling her most of the time.
-What do you think of your new pet?
Too cute for words and surprisingly affectionate for looking so much like an alley.
Gif of Cori Just Bein' Cute
Look at that innocent face...
Also, I find that she comes when she’s called immediately, almost as if she’d already been trained. I haven’t seen much aggression from her either, like I would have expected in an alley cat.Look at that innocent face...
-What personality does it have?
That is such a hard question to answer for me because I honestly don’t know enough about Catz personalities to distinguish them. I know that alleys are supposed to have a tendency towards irritation and distractedness due to their fleas and sickness. I have noticed some tendency to wander, but not a lot and almost no aggression whatsoever. There was one time that she did a crouch that I think is unique to alleys. Is it possible for a mixie to also have a mix of personalities?
She just so sweet!
-Find your new pet's favorite food
That was way easier said than done. I happen to have a rather wide range of food items due to the universe I need to keep up with. Therefore, I was able to set out a display that would repeatedly baffle Cori as she tried to figure out which she preferred.
I forgot that catz and dogz usually explored before choosing a favorite, so instead of diving right and eating, Cori proceeded to methodically pound on a food item, explore it, and move on to something else. She started with the, another surprise, blue food dish… for dogz… Maybe its an alley thing? Anyway, she didn’t eat, just played with it. This was the first time that Cori showed me just how much alley was in her. I hadn’t snapped a picture of her before outside of a chair.
She. Hates. Pictures.
And now I have found a guilty pleasure: snapping pictures and then snapping reaction pictures afterwards. I’m such a bad owner… Maybe she’s just a drama queen and actually really likes the attention? Deep, deep, deep inside?
Anyway, when she was done with the blue dish, she wasn’t really sure what to do next. She’s a fairly thoughtful kitty and takes time to make up her mind. However, once she did, she attacked the leftovers a vengeance and moved from there to the fish (finally, a cat dish!)
I like to call this one “No Paparazzi!”
Cori's Not amused with my shenanigans...
So far, though, Cori has only played with her food. Cori's Not amused with my shenanigans...
From the fish, she moved on to yet another dog food bowl, the silver one this time, and then she decided to think over her choices thus far in the chair… She took a very long time to think it over.
I finally decided to curtail her contemplation by picking her up and setting her down in front of the dishes again. Poor thing wasn’t quite ready to make a decision on her next move yet.
Finally, she started cirling the raw meat, looking a bit like a vulture, so I tried to catch it on camera and she gave me the sassiest look so far:
“You’re doing that picture thing again. Stop it. Or else.”
Except that I really don’t feel threatened by those adorable paws… X3Anyway, she went back to circling the meat, and circled it again. She did finally pick it up for a brief moment, which I didn’t capture, but I did get her reaction to my picture. She is just going to have to get used to it. I’m going to be one of those moms that is constantly taking pictures of their baby while they’re yelling “Mooooom, stop it! That’s so lame!” Welp, get used to it, Cori. Its gonna happen.
Well after that, Cori decided to pounce on the biggest dish in the room and I giggled over it. How on earth did she think she was going to eat all that??? But she tried to give me a big, tough look. That didn’t work because has has the most adorable alley crouch due to her huge paws. Look at those witto toesies! You know, her markings make her look like she has one of those fingerless gloves on. What a punk. XD
The crouch started her off running around the room like a maniac and tripping over her huge paws.
She kept getting distracted by the medicine and flea spray I had out of reach. She really wanted to check them out, but I know the flea spray makes pets sick, so I said no.
Yes! Finally she started eating something, and it was the catfish! But she didn’t seem to favor it… So she tried the green cat food bowl, and then the dead mouse.
And then she finished off with the Green Bowl! Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! Once I realized that was what she preferred, I sprayed her with the flea stuff (Just in case) and dripped medicine in the bowl. She was feeling much better after that.
And she stuffed herself with food which promptly led to a nap.
-Find your new pet's favorite toy
I’m going to make the rest
However, I did leave out quite a display of toys for Coraline to mess around with and she started out the way she did with the food, just pouncing on each item to get to know what it was. That is, when she wasn’t doing her alley thing and tearing up the carpet… ^^’
She played with almost everything I put out for her, but she usually just left them alone after pouncing on them. I couldn’t tell if she liked the Dangly toy or not…
But she was decidedly weirded out by the Parrot. To be honest, so was I. I hadn’t messed with it much before, but did you know that the head just randomly moves on occasion? I was definitely unnerved! And so was Cori.
At this point, I noticed she was getting more distracted than usual and hacking, so I snagged a medicated snack at the kitchen really quickly (I’m going to make note that I didn’t put the food away when I left).
Lol! Look at the look she gave me for taking her picture this time.
O-e ← Her expression here.
She followed that with another of her cute alley crouches that I can’t resist. Then Cori went back to playing with toys until she happened to pass the parrot again and totally freaked out.
“Moooooom, I think its alive!”
Back to playing with toys (yay for A.D.D. kittens, always distracted with new things). She seems to favor the ball of yarn and shell… hmmm…“I’ve got my eye on you parrot…”
I put the parrot away. It wasn’t good for Cori’s or my mental health…I think she likes the dead mouse too… Appropriate taste for a feral cat.
She thinks she’s a big, wild cat, stalking her prey. Sneaky Cori who likes teddy bears...
But no! She really is a wild cat, pouncing both the jingle ball and then the ball of yarn in one fell swoop!
Then she got distracted by the cat toy. I think she wanted it to sit on the chair, so I did that for her.
She fell asleep on the first one. She took a nap for a while; however, when she woke up, I though she might want a real lunch so we headed to the kitchen.
And. Found. Roaches! Yech! I’ll bet it was because I left the food out… *guilty face* Cori was decidedly more curious than afraid of them. She chased them around until I pulled out the bug catcher so that Cori could get her lunch.
Then it was time to finish up the toy search. Cori smugly pulled out a toy I had missed before…
Yes, Cori, you are a clever kitty.
She actually didn’t care for it all that much, just wanted to point out that I could make a mistake. But anyway, I discovered how to properly use the yarn ball which made it waaaay more entertaining for Cori! We had a blast until she was sitting still and I was twirling the ball of yarn in circles in front of her and suddenly this happened:
I think… I think I may have hypnotized her… Oops…
Well, um… Enjoy your nap, Cori!
Here is the final result. I think she likes these toys the most (I don’t really know about the yarn ball… I just know that I like it the most now… I’m such a bad Petz owner…). -Introduce your new pet to the pet you picked to take part
Woot, Woot! Chance, come on out!
Well, they had the usual greeting that most kittens have, so that didn’t really tell me much about how they would get along. Then Chance pounced on Cori! This made me very apprehensive, especially since he kept on doing it. But then I noticed that Cori not only wasn’t mad at Chance, but seemed pretty chill with it. Maybe she empathized with his tendency to pounce on things… Erm, I mean people.
Now this was ok, but Chance literally wouldn’t stop pouncing on Cori, so I thought maybe a change of scene and the distraction of food would bring out more personality and maybe depth to this Cori/Chance relationship.
*sigh*
Well, Cori was hungry at least. I had put out other foods that had interested her before in case Chance might have had a different interest or maybe Cori would show me that she really liked something else. Cori did try the fish this time but Chance just seemed kind of confused about what he was supposed to do with food… You’re supposed to eat it, Chance…Perhaps this made him feel a little defensive because he put on a “I don’t really care” face.
But he couldn’t hold back his curiosity for long. He gnawed on that fish for quite some time!
Now that they’d stopped their incessant wrestling, I thought we’d try playing with some toys. Chance was confused again, so he went back to his favorite game: pounce on Cori. *facepalm*
But then I got him interested in the yarn ball and played with both him and Cori for a while before heading back to the kitchen to see if Chance was hungry enough to actually eat something.
Edit: Um... That second Pic... I don't even know...
Yay! Chance ate some food! I don’t know if he necessarily likes the fish best, but I noticed Cori getting sleepy again, so I took us all back to the living room and pulled out some pillows. I’ll give Chance some more food choices later.
Yeesh, Chance, give the girl a break already, don’t you see she’s sleepy?
Well, they both like the dangly toy after all… or they both just really hate it… Not sure.
Cori looks like she is saying, “Chance, what are you even doing? You’re soooo off target.”
But then, Cori did the cutest thing ever!
She picked up the teddy bear and jumped onto a pillow and started getting comfy. Chance was still teaching that blue dangly thingy a lesson. But then he finally settled down two and they both went to sleep.
And I believe that’s a wrap!
-Why'd you pick this pet to take part?
I’ll be honest, I had hopes that the two would be mates someday and I really wanted a cat who had complimentary colors with Coraline. I didn’t know what Cori’s gender would be, but I guessed she was a girl, so when Babbin and Bailey had two boys and a girl, I chose one of the boys. However, I also thought Chance would make a great playmate; his sire, Babbin, is a cute, fun loving goofball and I figured any son of his would be a lot of fun too!
-Give background information on the pet you picked to take part. Where'd you get it? Why'd you get it in the first place?
I got Chance by breeding Babbin with Bailey (both crew members). I got two other babies, but I thought Chance’s colors were best suited to Coraline’s, so I chose him. The reason I chose Babbin’s kit was because I originally wanted to use Babbin himself, but I realized that he had already grown up when I checked on him (Kits grow so fast, don’t they? *sigh*). So I figured that if I couldn’t get Babbin himself, I would get one of his kits. I knew he was going to choose Bailey as his mate, so I let them hang out together for a while and, sure enough, Chance, his brother Bubbles and their sister Riley were the result.
