Haha I accuse my dad of being communist cause he named our dog Nikitta XD But we just call her Kitta now, cause we are lazy lol.
In the past, we had a grey cat named Dusty and a cali named Abby... and a parakeet named Barney lol. So I guess mostly people names? I dunno, it depends on the pet's personality and what jumps to mind when you look at them lol.

Names that point at how they look, aswell as people names and caracter names.
My guinea names: Miss Piggie, Babbel ("Chip" in Dutch), Yuki, Hazel, Jessica, and Bloempje ("Flower" in Dutch). *Named after cartoon-caracters, and some human-y names.
My turtles names: Zoef, Tracey, Storm. *All three are named after something fast.

Uh well- Boo- a pug... Well it should technically be Bu, for Busaiku (which means ugly/piglike in japanese) Shadow- well that name came from the shelter, she was sort of a ghost at the shelter, very shy. We couldn't change it, haha coz for the first few weeks she would hide in her crate and we'd just sit in front of it with snacks calling "shadow, good girl!" Tama- one of the cats, haha we were gonna name our next dog Pochi so we would have PochiTama (haha if you watch japanese tv you'll get that ). Momo- Another cat. Don't ask why we named him that, coz I'm not sure either. Kiki- So my roommate used to have a black cat named Jiji who died a few years ago, so there was a Kiki and a Jiji :3 Chibineko- well we found this kitten in the summer, we've been trying to find her a home but she's not that cute so we've just been calling her chibineko or chikoi neko. I guess she's staying though. We do a lot of japanese names I guess.. haha. My mom thinks of them, though. I always want something like Piper or Kinza or something cool like that but my family never agrees. Oh well, at least I still have petz!

I tend to name my personal pets something unique. I like the idea of my pets being special and different than everyone else lol.
My Betta are named Jinhai and Mingzhu. I have an albino Cichlid back in Hawaii named Calder. My female rat's name was Julian hehe. I called her Juju at most times. My chameleon's names were Tokka, Ignacius, and Byndii.
Then we have my cat, Lily. My mom named her. Zoey is her Yorkie, and Gabe is her Lab. Then Zoey had pups and we kept one. It took us a while to give her a name. No one could agree. xD My mom got my step dad to agree to Chloe, but I held my ground and that changed lmfao. I refused to allow another pet in the house with a name that ended with the sound "ey." xDDD So, I got my mom to agree on Stella. :D I have come to the conclusion that my mom likes to use real people names lol.

My one and only bed is named Abyssal. I got it because I'm aquatic obsessed and he's somewhat dark and aquatic based so I went with something that would suit that.

I named my dog Kyuss from a band in the 90's. 'Ky' rhymes with sky and 'uss' is pronounced just like 'us.' They got their name from Dungeons and Dragons apparently. My one cat is named Smeg thanks to Red Dwarf. =b

I assume we are talking real pets? I put other and people because my cats and dog are named people names. But my guinea pigs are named descriptive names, okay actually they are named after a person I guess (maybe?). My fish have had object or descriptive names in the past and my past cats and dogs have had people or character names. However my hamsters have had mostly descriptive names, not like Fluffy (since hamsters are fluffy, species based) but more like Happy, non-species based since all pets can be happy (though I have never named pets those names).

Um, varies?
My cats are named: Jinxter (known as Jinx)a friend named him. FruitLoop (Fruity) something sweet lol. Hiccup (Squeaks) from How to Train your Dragon, so character based.
I've had other cats named Kitty (I can't remember what her real name was, but everyone called her Kitty), PussPuss (she came with that name, hated it, called her Prettygirl), Skittlez (brother named her), Neko, Niko (bf named), Sweetness, KD (for Kraft Dinner, when we were young).
I currently have a bunny named Thumper, and two gerbils named Pickles and Patches (my brother named all of them). I really haven't named that many pets lol.

Our family is REALLY into nicknaming pets, but their actual names are decently traditional - Gracie, Sassie, and Dakota for the dogs, Kisha, Saxon, and Junice for the cats. Dakota is usually called Cody and Saxon picked up the nickname Goober, and only gets called Saxon when she's in trouble. Junice is named after an SNL skit, and Dakota is threefold - a human name, a place, and a word in a different language (The Lakota Sioux word for "friend").
As for nicknames - Gracie and Sassie are often shortened to Grace and Sass, and there are a few other similar sounding nicknames for them (Gracers, Sassafrass). Cody gets called "boydog" a lot (he's our only male pet) and "bear" since he looks a bit like one. The poor cats, though. Kisha's nicknames mostly arise from her first nickname, Kisha-Boo, she she's Boo/BooBoo, Boob/Booby, Bubby/Bubbers/Bub, depending on how my sister feels at the time. Saxon is Goober or Goob. Junice is a silly name, and that evolved to Junie, then June, then June Bug, and now I call her Bug more than anything.
Writing this has made me realize that most of our animals have so many nicknames because of my sister. So if any of them have an identity crisis, we can blame her.
